SPYDER Movie Review Retrospect

Director AR Murugadoss, who has given extremely good films in Tamil telugu and Hindi both collection wise and from the story aspect , now teams up with Superstar Mahesh Babu for a bilingual in Telugu and Tamil. Even though he’s a superstar in the tollywood industry it’s a debut film for him in the Tamil film industry.

Mahesh Babu plays an Intelligence Bureau officer who tapes calls and also goes a step further to save the people who are in need of help or any situations where only the hero can save them. One such call leads him to our spine chilling sadist/psychological killer, and how he faces is what the story of spyder is. Mahesh Babu’s performance in the film was decent and the reason is because in relation with the expressions of his comparative to the kollywood actors is not easily adaptable for the audience. The way the story is built makes it dynamic.

SJ Suryah finds an intense role to show his acting skills throughout the film. The director has done a really mesmerising job in sculpting the character of SJ Suryah knowing that it would be the biggest plus of the film. SJ Suryah’s introduction scene, in particular, was really out of the box intro for the local audience. Bharath who is also done a small negative role in the film with a very few lines and an awesome but yet unrealistic action sequence opposite to Mahesh has done a really nice job and now the heroine Rakul Preet Singh’s character in the film is a parallel line which does not touch the main story line until climax has romance portions with Mahesh worked well At places it feels like ‘’Oh no… now is not the time…come on????..’’.

The movie gets grippy from the beginning, as it grabs the attention of the crowd. The director keeps treationg our eyes with twists and turns one after another which makes the entire audience get excited and a few over whelmed But towards the end, it gets a little draggy, but the film has a good screenplay and it’s a solid action entertainer for film lovers.

Director AR Murugadoss has utilized his team with maximal perfection conceive a suspense and an emotional impact which delivers a good thriller, the satisfaction level of the audience has not reached up to the mark compared to his previous films

Spyder is the battle between Mahesh Babu and SJ Suryah. One of the sequences can be related to a scene from Thuppakki but with a bit lower impact. Some CGI scenes could have been done better when we get know the budget of the film

Santhosh Sivan’s camera adds a real gravity to the film which makes us cling on to the seats. Editing of Shekar Prasad also takes a lot of credit, Harris Jayaraj’s music can be highlighted with the BGM track for SJ Suryah and the songs were with the usual Harris beats which makes us tap our feet. The action sequences composed by Peter Hein is another major reason to watch the movie especially the roller coaster and the climax fight.

Verdict: Spyder is a good entertainer with a small message which a large human population lack a bit.

Overall rating for the movie from timesofcinema review board : 3/5
