To start about the film , we are to mention the 2006 film “Metro” that spoke about chain snatching but did not score well. MPME also deals with similar plot but with few other commercial elements , emotions touch to a bit making it a decent watch when compared to Metro. MPME is a Rahesh directorial starring Dhruv , Anjana , Saranya Ponvannan , Mime Gopi , Aishwarya Dutta , Radha Ravi alongside many others.
The main plot of the film revolves around chain snatching incidents , how the gang actually plans such operation , the aftermath of snatching , where do they convert these golds and so on.The film kick starts with a gripping chain of incidents by Mime Gopi’s gang. After some time , our hero turns up with his face covered with a mask and snatches the gold from the person who belongs to Mime Gopi gang and here’s when Aishwarya Dutta one of the aspiring cop turns out to be the eye witness. Eventually , Dhruv joins Mime Gopi and continues to work for him. The upcoming incidents that reveal the reason behind Dhruv’s act , how his wife Anjana and Saranya fall prey to chain snatch incident , how escapes the cops and also exploring into the actual world of chain snatchers is the story.
The director who has previously helmed Thambikottai , has improved himself in his second venture. The intriguing moments along with some hard hitting dialogues has saved the film from becoming below average. Nevertheless , needless comedy and emotions could have ignored at some places that has deviated the film from the serious plot based on real incidents and in the end delivered a eye opener kind of message on women’s safety.
To talk about the highlights of the film , the treatment given to the chain snatching process as a well planned operation was impressive only because it was something new in the recent past. The performance of the cast was a savorier in most of the places. Radha Ravi , Saranya has delivered an as usual finest acting in their given roles. The voice over by Radha Ravi in the initial portion of the film upholds the tone and texture of the film well. Comedy did not go well in this film may be because of the placement. Actor Dhruva who has played a cylinder delivery boy in the name Japan has given an adequate performance knowing what exactly is needed without overdoing nor underplaying. He actually slays the action sequences and chain snatching sequences. He has everything a upcoming actor needs. The scope for Anjana is more when compared to Aishwarya and given that Anjana scores well. Taken the songs alone , it is pleasant to our ears where as the bgms are jarring and underwhelming.
Cinematography by P. G. Muthiah has contributed big time in conveying the mood of the film and in capturing the cast’s emotions is undeniably beautiful. Cuts by San Lokesh is trippy at places when chain snatching happens , cop chase and action blocks. A potential film that lags behind because of taking a trip into the mainstream lane with obvious and predictable flashbacks and unnecessary commercial cliches that goes hanging.
Marainthirunthu Paarkum Marmam Enna is definetly a decent watch for family audience that has the right proportions of commercial elements and realistic portrayal regarding chain snatching. This film would have worked out big time , if only the screenplay was given extra focus and by omitting few misfit elements like heroic stunt towards , lengthy flashback and such cliched materials. The commendable narrative skills of the director deserves a special mention which goes ineffective because of few drawbacks that could have been easily corrected.
Overall , the film is a commercial drama that has handled social issues like chain snatching and women’s safety.
