The film was officially announced on September 17, coinciding with PM Modi’s 75th birthday.
Produced by Silver Cast Creations and directed by Kranthi Kumar C. H., Maa Vande promises to go beyond politics, highlighting the deeply personal aspects of Modi’s journey—from his humble beginnings in Gujarat to his rise as one of the most influential figures in contemporary India.
“I am humbled to share that I will be portraying the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Damodardas Modi Ji, in Maa Vande,” Mukundan said in an official statement. “Having grown up in Ahmedabad, I first knew him as the Chief Minister during my childhood. Years later, in April 2023, I had the privilege of meeting him in person—a moment that left an indelible mark on me.”
The actor, known for his intense performances in Malayalam cinema, described the role as “overwhelming and inspiring.” Mukundan also revealed that two words spoken by Modi—“Jhookvanu Nahi” (Never bow down)—have stayed with him and now serve as a guiding principle in both his personal life and professional approach to the role.
The film’s title, Maa Vande (translated as Mother, I Salute Thee), reflects its emotional anchor: the relationship between Modi and his late mother, Heeraben Modi. Director Kranthi Kumar noted that this bond is central to the narrative, offering a lens through which viewers can better understand Modi’s formative years and character.
“This isn’t a political drama or propaganda,” the director said. “At its heart, this is a story about a son and his mother. It’s about how love, discipline, and values shape the journey of a man who would go on to lead a nation.”
Backed by a high-profile technical team, Maa Vande brings together some of Indian cinema’s finest talent. The cinematography will be handled by K. K. Senthil Kumar (Baahubali), editing by A. Sreekar Prasad, and production design by Sabu Cyril. Music will be composed by Ravi Basrur, best known for his work in the KGF franchise, with action sequences choreographed by King Solomon.
The film is slated for a pan-Indian release in multiple languages, including Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and English. Production is expected to begin soon, with a theatrical release planned for late 2026.
Unni Mukundan, who has steadily expanded his fan base across South India and beyond, said the role represents not just an acting challenge, but a personal calling.
“This is not just another character for me—it’s a responsibility,” he said. “It’s about honouring the journey of a man who came from very little and gave his everything to serve the nation. I hope to do justice to the essence of that journey.”

மோதிக்கும் அவரது மறைந்த தாயார் ஹீராபென் மோதிக்கும் இடையிலான உணர்வுப்பூர்வமான பிணைப்பை பிரதிபலிக்கும் வகையில் ‘மா வந்தே’ (அம்மா நான் உன்னை வணங்குகிறேன்) எனப் படத்திற்கு தலைப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதுவே படத்தின் மையக் கருவாக இருக்கும் என்றும் இந்தப் படம் மூலம் மோதியின் இன்னொரு பக்கத்தையும் அவரின் வளர்ச்சியையும் பார்வையாளர்கள் நன்றாக புரிந்து கொள்ள முடியும் என்கிறார் இயக்குநர் கிராந்தி குமார்.
