Director Siddharth Chandrashekar elated by social media phenomenon

A song from the 2010 Tamil film ‘Bale Pandiya’, titled ‘Happy’, has unexpectedly gone viral on social media 15 years after its original release. The feel-good track, which has now crossed over 1 million views, is winning hearts of a new generation of listeners.

Produced by AGS Entertainment and directed by Siddharth Chandrashekar, ‘Bale Pandiya’ starred Vishnu Vishal and Pia Bajpiee in the lead roles. The music for the film was composed by Devan Ekambaram, with lyrics by the legendary poet Vaalee.

What makes ‘Happy’ particularly unique is that it was performed by a remarkable ensemble of 20 celebrated singers – including Hariharan, Devan Ekambaram, Naresh Iyer, Naveen Madhav, Paravai Muniyamma, Malaysia Vasudevan, Ranjith, Aalap Raju, Raqeeb Alam, Anuradha Sriram, Srinivas, Velmurugan, Manikka Vinayagam, Mukesh, Malgudi Subha, Divya, Anita, Suchitra, Vijay Yesudas, and Rahul Nambiar. All except Malaysia Vasudevan made special appearances in the song, which was shot in Puducherry over the course of just two days.

Speaking on the viral resurgence of the track, director Siddharth Chandrashekar expressed his pride and gratitude: “It is truly heartwarming to see today’s generation embracing ‘Happy’. The song features the timeless lyrics of poet Vaali, Devan Ekambaram’s youthful composition, and the rare collaboration of 20 iconic voices coming together. We managed to bring everyone on board and shoot the video within just two days in Puducherry. Choreographer Dinesh did a nice job in composing dance steps for acapella-style number.”

He added, “Each song in ‘Bale Pandiya’ holds its own unique appeal. Lyricist Thamarai also penned lyrics for the film. As ‘Happy’ spreads joy once again, I want to remember and thank everyone who contributed to it and also express my gratitude to the new-gen audience for their love and appreciation.”

Siddharth Chandrashekar, known for his work as a leading publicity designer on blockbuster films such as ‘Chandramukhi’, ‘Anniyan’, ‘Ghajini’, and ‘7aum Arivu’, has since transitioned into a successful interior designer in Chennai. His firm, Pencil and Monk, is notable for designing the interiors of Chennai’s iconic landmarks, such as the U.S. Consulate Library and the Sheraton Grand Hotel.

ஏ ஜி எஸ் என்டர்டெயின்மென்ட் தயாரிப்பில் சித்தார்த் சந்திரசேகர் இயக்கத்தில் 2010ம் ஆண்டு வெளியான திரைப்படம் ‘பலே பாண்டியா’. விஷ்ணு விஷால் மற்றும் பியா பாஜ்பாய் முதன்மை வேடங்களில் நடித்த இப்படத்திற்கு தேவன் ஏகாம்பரம் இசையமைத்திருந்தார்.

‘பலே பாண்டியா’ படத்தில் இடம்பெற்றுள்ள ‘ஹேப்பி’ பாடல் 15 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு பிறகு தற்போது திடீரென சமூக ஊடகங்களில் வைரல் ஆகி 10 லட்சம் பார்வைகளை கடந்து தொடர்ந்து சாதனை படைத்து வருகிறது. கவிஞர் வாலி எழுதிய இப்பாடலை 20 பிரபல பாடகர்கள் பாடியதோடு திரையிலும் தோன்றி இருந்தனர்.

இத்தனை ஆண்டுகள் கழித்து ‘ஹேப்பி’ பாடல் வைரல் ஆனது குறித்து பெருமிதம் தெரிவித்துள்ள இயக்குநர் சித்தார்த் சந்திரசேகர், “இன்றைய தலைமுறையினர் இப்பாடலை ரசிப்பது கவிஞர் வாலி அவர்களின் சாகாவரம் பெற்ற வரிகளையும், தேவன் ஏகாம்பரத்தின் இளமையான இசையையும், 20 பாடகர்கள் ஒன்றிணைந்த அரிதான நிகழ்வையும் கொண்டாடும் வகையில் அமைந்துள்ளது. இப்பாடலை வெறும் இரண்டே தினங்களில் அனைவரையும் ஒன்றிணைத்து புதுச்சேரியில் படமாக்கினோம். அக்காபெல்லா வகையிலான இப்பாடலுக்கு தினேஷ் மாஸ்டர் நடனம் அமைத்தார்,” என்றார்.
