இந்திய வெளிவிவகார அமைச்சகத்தின் செயல்படும், புலம் பெயர்ந்தோர் பாதுகாப்பு அமைப்பின் (PoE) தமிழ்நாடு பிரிவு, நடத்தும் விழிப்புணர்வு நடை இன்று( பிப்.8) காலை 7.30 மணிக்கு சென்னை எலியட்ஸ் கடற்கரையில் நடைபெற்றது.

வெளிநாட்டில் அதிக சம்பளத்துக்கு வேலை வாய்ப்பு இருப்பதாக கூறி மோசடிகள் தொடர்ந்து நடக்கின்றன. சட்ட விரோதமாக செயல்படும் சில முகவர்கள் இது போன்ற மோசடிகளில் ஈடுபடுகிறாரகள். இவர்கள் மீது, மத்திய அரசின் புலம் பெயர்ந்தோர் நல அமைப்பு (PoE) நடவடிக்கை எடுத்து வருகிறது. மேலும் மோசடி பேர்வழிகளிடம் மக்கள் ஏமாந்துவிடாமல் இருக்க விழிப்புணர்வு பிரச்சாரங்களையும் தொடர்ந்து மேற்கொண்டு வருகிறது. இதன் ஒரு பகுதியாக, இன்று சென்னை எலியட்ஸ் கடற்கறையில் விழிப்புணர்வு நடை ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டது.

இதில் மாணவர்கள், வேலை தேடுபவர்கள், பொது மக்கள் என அனைவரும் கலந்து கொண்டனர்.

நிகழ்வில் கிருஷ்ணமூர்த்தி, கமிஷனர், நான் ரெசிடென்ஸ் தமிழ் டிபார்ட்மெண்ட் “வெளியுறவுத் துறைமூலமாக வெளிநாடு செல்பவர்கள் பதிவு பெற்ற முகவர்கள் மூலமாகதான் செல்ல வேண்டும் என்பதற்காக இந்த நிகழ்ச்சியை முன்னெடுத்து இருக்கிறார்கள். தமிழக அரசும் பல துறைகளுடன் இணைந்து இதுபோன்ற விழிப்புணர்வு நிகழ்ச்சியை நடத்தி இருக்கிறார்கள். சென்னையில் உள்ள நமது அலுவலகத்திலும், அதிகம் வெளிநாடு செல்பவர்கள் இருக்கும் ஏழு மாவட்டங்களிலும் அங்கிருக்கும் தன்னார்வு நிறுவனங்களுடன் சேர்ந்து பயிற்சி மற்றும் விழிப்புணர்வு நிகழ்ச்சியை நடத்தி வருகிறோம். இதுமட்டுமல்லாது, நமது அலுவலகத்தில் இருந்தும் 24 மணி நேரமும் செயல்படும் விதமாக ஐயப்பாடுகளைத் தீர்க்கும் விதமாக கட்டணமில்லா சேவைகளையும் வழங்கி வருகிறோம்.

வளைகுடா, மலேசியா போன்ற நாடுகளில் புலம் பெயர்ந்து செல்பவர்களுக்கு வரும் பிரச்சினைகளுக்கு உதவ ஒருங்கிணைப்பாளர்களும் தொடர்ச்சியாக இதுபோன்ற விழிப்புணர்வு நிகழ்ச்சிகளும் நடத்தி வருகிறோம். PoE வந்தபிறகு அவர்களுடன் இணைந்து பதிவு பெறாத முகவர்கள் மீது நடவடிக்கை எடுத்து வருகிறோம். வெளியுறவுத்துறையில் பதிவு பெற்ற முகவர்கள் 200 பேர் இருக்கிறார்கள். அவர்கள் மூலம் மட்டுமே வெளிநாடுகளுக்கு செல்லுங்கள்”.

ராஜ்குமார், ஐஎஃப்எஸ், புலம்பெயர்ந்தோரின் பாதுகாவலர், தமிழ்நாடு “வெளிநாடுகளுக்கு கூட்டிச் செல்கிறோம் என ஏமாற்றுபவர்கள் பற்றிய செய்திகளைக் கேள்விப்பட்டிருக்கிறோம். ஆனால், இப்போது ஒருபடி மேலே போய், கூட்டிச் சென்று ஸ்கேம் செய்வதற்கு அவர்களை சைபர் ஸ்லேவாக பயன்படுத்துகிறார்கள். வெளிநாடு செல்பவர்கள் ஏமாறுவது மட்டுமல்லாது, அங்கு சென்று அவர்கள வைத்து நம்மையும் ஏமாற்றி பொருளாதாரா இழப்பை ஏற்படுத்துகிறார்கள். இந்த சைபர் ஸ்லேவில் இருந்து வெளியே வர வேண்டும் என்றால் குறிப்பிட்ட தொகை கொடுத்தால் தான் வெளியே விடுவோம் என்கிறார்கள். இதற்கான விழிப்புணர்வு நிகழ்ச்சிதான் ‘பாத்து போங்க’. பதிவு பெற்ற முகவர்கள் மூலமாகதான் வெளிநாடு செல்கிறோமோ, டூரிஸ்ட் விசா இல்லாமல் சரியான விசா மூலமாக செல்கிறோமோ போன்ற பல விஷயங்களை இந்த நிகழ்ச்சியில் தெளிவுப்படுத்தி வருகிறோம்” என்றார்.

டாக்டர் சந்தீப் மிட்டல், ஐபிஎஸ் ஏடிஜிபி சைபர் கிரைம் பேசியதாவது, ”நம் நாட்டில் இருந்து வேலை செய்ய நிறைய பேர் வெளிநாட்டிற்கு போகிறார்கள். அவர்களில் பெரும்பாலானோர் முறையான ஏஜென்சி மூலம் போகமாட்டார்கள். டூரிஸ்ட் விசா வாங்கி வெளிநாட்டிற்குப் போகிறார்கள். அங்கு அவர்களைக் கட்டாயப்படுத்தி ஸ்கேம் செண்டரில் வேலை பார்க்க வைக்கிறார்கள். டிஜிட்டல் அரெஸ்ட், ஸ்டாக் மார்கெட் என மக்களை அச்சுறுத்தும் ஃபோன் கால்கள் எல்லாம் ஸ்கேம் செண்டரில் இருந்துதான் வருகிறது. வெளிநாடுகளுக்கு செல்லும் பலர் அங்கு மாட்டிக் கொண்டு சைபர் அடிமை ஆகிவிடுகிறார்கள். இதுபோன்று வெளிநாடுகளில் யாராவது வேலை வாங்கித் தருவதாக உங்களிடம் சொன்னால் நீங்கள் மிகவும் கவனமாக இருக்க வேண்டும். பதிவு செய்த டிராவல் ஏஜென்சி மூலம்தான் நீங்கள் செல்ல வேண்டும். இதுபற்றிய விழிப்புணர்வுக்காகதான் இந்த வாக்கத்தான் நிகழ்ச்சியை முன்னெடுத்து இருக்கிறார்கள்” என்றார்.

The Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Forest Department, and Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies (RNP), is hosting a two-day celebration of “Yaanai Thiruvizha” (Gaj Utsav) in Guindy Auditorium in Guindy National Park, Chennai from February 7-8, 2025.

This grand event marks the culmination of a year-long campaign celebrating and advocating for the magnificent Asian elephants in India. Launched in Coimbatore on 12th August 2023, Elephant Day, in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu government, this campaign has traversed 16 corridors across 6 districts. Through partnerships with six local NGOs and government bodies, we have successfully reached over 19,000 people.

The GajUtsav Campaign, led by the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), aims to secure the Right of Passage for Asian elephants through community mobilisation and stakeholder consultation. In recent years, these majestic species have faced increasing conflicts and threats due to human activities and habitat degradation. The GajUtsav Campaign addresses these challenges, striving to create a positive future for these iconic animals.
The event was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of Forests, Government of Tamil Nadu,Dr. K Ponmudy, along with the Principal Secretary to the Govt. Tamil Nadu, Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, Chief of Forests (HOFF), Thiru. Srinivas R. Reddy, and Chief Wildlife Warden (CWLW) Thiru. Rakesh Kumar Dogra, and dignitaries from Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) and Care Earth Trust. Distinguished guests from the Legislature, District Administration, Forest Department, and civil society were also present.

This was followed by the felicitation of ‘Conservation Heroes’ comprising of twenty individuals and three groups who have made outstanding contributions to elephant conservation efforts.

The festival brings together a diverse group of experts, dignitaries, artists, environmentalists, and the general public to discuss the critical need for elephant conservation, the role of elephants in Tamil culture, and the urgent necessity for sustainable governance. It explores themes like Gaja Shastra (balancing governance and conservation), Gaja Dharma (the elephant in religious texts), and Airavata (elephants in literature). Gajotsava is a cultural evening highlighting elephants in art, music, and dance, while Gaja Gamini looks at their role in Indian cinema.

In addition to thought-provoking discussions, the event showcases captivating elephant-inspired art pieces created by local artists using sustainable and recycled materials. An illustrated map highlighting Tamil Nadu’s elephant corridors is also on display, emphasisng the urgent need to protect these crucial migratory routes.

By celebrating elephants through art, culture, and dialogue, the Yaanai Thiruvizha seeks to foster a deeper connection between people and elephants, while advocating for the urgent need to protect these iconic creatures for future generations.

Dr. K. Ponmudy, Hon’ble Minister of Forests, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, said, “The joint efforts of the TN Forest Department, WTI, and other NGOs gathered here today are vital in conserving elephants and supporting communities near their habitats. Let us learn, share our experience stoday and tomorrow and use it for long term conservation purposes. Our Hon’ble Chief Minister, Mr. Stalin, has stressed the importance of protecting all wildlife, including elephants and that Tamil Nadu is at the forefront of conservation.”

He continued, “5 crore has been allocated for a 10 km fence in Thondamuthur, Coimbatore. Rangers must remain vigilant in identifying and resolving elephant conflicts promptly.”

Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, Principal Secretary to the Govt. Tamil Nadu, said, “Rapid urbanisation is a major challenge. The Tamil Nadu government is utilising modern AI technology to monitor elephant movements on railway tracks and prevent fatalities.’”

Thiru. Rakesh Kumar Dogra, Chief Wildlife Warden (CWLW) said, “This is a landmark initiative by WTI to promote elephant conservation. India has a rich history of coexisting with elephants for over 2,000 years. The Tamil Nadu government has notified five elephant reserves, implemented transparent death audits, established an elephant conservation centre, and deployed Kumki elephants to mitigate conflicts. Additionally, we are strengthening capacity-building efforts by training staff in-house and sending them to Thailand to learn best practices. Tamil Nadu remains at the forefront of conflict management.’

Jose Louies, CEO, WTI, said, “Yaanai Thiruvizha is a collaborative campaign with the Tamil Nadu Forest Department to take forward the message of elephant conservation and the need to safeguard their corridors. The overwhelming support from the public and the government is encouraging, and WTI along with grassroots organisations and individuals through the Green Corridor Champion network, is ensuring a community-driven conservation effort.”

Romance Sets Sail, but Drama Capsizes the Emotional Depth

Introduction

Chandoo Mondeti’s Thandel is a film that ambitiously intertwines love, longing, and patriotism, set against the backdrop of the lives of Srikakulam fisherfolk. Starring Naga Chaitanya as Raju and Sai Pallavi as Sathya, the film beautifully captures the romance between the leads but struggles when it veers into geopolitical drama. While the first half is an immersive, heartfelt love story, the latter half falters as it shifts focus to a Pakistani prison, losing its emotional resonance in heroism and exaggerated nationalism.

The Soulful Romance of Sathya and Raju

The strongest pillar of Thandel is its love story. Sathya and Raju’s romance is filled with unspoken emotions, longing glances, and the silent language of love. Sai Pallavi, with her expressive eyes, conveys a cocktail of reverence, exasperation, and deep affection whenever she looks at Raju. Naga Chaitanya, on the other hand, plays a man torn between his love for Sathya and his duty to the sea. Their relationship is filled with poetic moments—an old shirt carrying a lover’s fragrance, a flag tied to a lighthouse waving in the wind, and the hushed conversations that speak volumes.

Chandoo Mondeti’s storytelling in these portions is nuanced and tender. He excels in portraying the deep emotional connections formed despite physical distances. The sequences where Sathya celebrates Raju’s ascension as Thandel (leader of the hamlet) and accepts his long absences with quiet pride are heartwarming. The first half, rich in raw emotions and realism, is undoubtedly the film’s highlight.

The Pakistan Prison Narrative – A Weak Anchor

While the love story sails smoothly, the second half of Thandel takes an abrupt turn into political drama, and this is where the film struggles. The story of 22 Indian fishermen being captured by the Pakistan Navy for trespassing could have been a gripping tale of survival, resilience, and bureaucracy. However, the film reduces it to a simplistic hero-versus-villain conflict.

Raju, who was previously portrayed as a vulnerable and emotionally complex character, suddenly transforms into an unlikely hero leading his fellow prisoners against a group of stereotypically cruel Pakistani inmates. The hardships faced by the fishermen take a backseat as the narrative focuses on Raju’s leadership and heroism. The film fails to explore the psyche of the captives or the emotional trauma they endure. Instead of delving into human suffering and the harsh realities of political entanglements, Thandel chooses to present a jingoistic version of events.

Additionally, the bureaucratic hurdles and the struggles of the families back home are not given the weight they deserve. Sathya’s efforts to secure Raju’s release echo Roja’s premise, but unlike Mani Ratnam’s classic, Thandel does not ask the deeper, thought-provoking questions. Why should a single woman bear the burden of fighting the system? Why didn’t the government take immediate action? These gaps in the storytelling dilute the impact of the narrative.

Supporting Characters – Underutilized and Unexplored

Despite being an emotionally charged film, Thandel struggles with its supporting characters. Karunakaran, in his Telugu debut, plays a thankless role that adds little to the story. Similarly, Divya Pillai’s character, who initiates a major conflict in the film, is sidelined. Her arc, which could have added emotional depth, is largely ignored, even at crucial moments. These characters exist merely as narrative tools rather than fully realized individuals, making the film feel imbalanced.

Technical Brilliance – A Treat for the Senses

One of the film’s strongest aspects is its technical execution.

Music: Devi Sri Prasad’s score is the heart of the film. His use of the Bujji Thalli song in different forms is masterful, and the background score amplifies the emotions, tugging at the audience’s heartstrings.

Cinematography: Shamdat’s visuals are breathtaking. The sea, the Gujarat coast, and the prison cells in Pakistan are all shot with meticulous detail, making the settings feel alive. The ocean, in particular, is a constant, omnipresent force in the film—both as a source of livelihood and as a silent observer of Raju and Sathya’s love story.

Final Thoughts – A Film That Falls Short of Greatness

Thandel is a film that shines in its exploration of love but stumbles when it attempts to blend romance with patriotic drama. It had the potential to be an emotionally powerful tale of survival and resilience, but it prioritizes heroism over realism. While Sai Pallavi and Naga Chaitanya deliver remarkable performances, the film ultimately feels like two different movies stitched together—one a beautifully told love story, the other an over-the-top, undercooked prison drama.

Vidaamuyarchi – A Thoughtful Thriller That Dares to Be Different

A Journey Through Pain, Betrayal, and Redemption

Director Magizh Thirumeni’s Vidaamuyarchi stands apart from conventional Tamil cinema with its methodical storytelling, atmospheric cinematography, and an Ajith Kumar performance that prioritizes subtlety over spectacle. Set against the barren landscapes of Azerbaijan, this slow-burn thriller unfolds like a western, carefully crafting tension through its screenplay and striking visuals.

A Love That Withered Away

The film opens with Arjun (Ajith Kumar) and Kayal (Trisha), a couple whose 12-year marriage is unraveling. Flashbacks detail their journey together – from love to loss, their struggles with emotional distance, and the miscarriage that changed everything. Kayal’s confession about her affair and subsequent divorce decision shakes Arjun, but he remains composed, a stark contrast to the usual fiery Tamil cinema protagonist.

What makes this dynamic intriguing is Arjun’s restraint. He doesn’t lash out or throw dramatic accusations. Instead, he insists on driving Kayal to her parents’ home in Tbilisi, a journey that spans ten hours across the desolate Azerbaijani terrain. This decision, though seemingly simple, sets the stage for an intense chain of events.

When the Past and Present Collide

Their road trip takes an unexpected turn when Arjun has a minor altercation with Michael (Arav), an aggressive driver of a Hummer. While this appears incidental at first, the true repercussions unravel when they stop at a gas station. Here, Kayal encounters another Tamil couple – Rakshith (Arjun Sarja) and Deepika (Regina Cassandra), who own a trucking business in the region.

In a cruel twist of fate, Kayal accepts their offer for a ride to a nearby café, only for Arjun to discover moments later that she has been kidnapped. The film immediately shifts gears, pushing Arjun into an unrelenting quest to rescue his estranged wife.

A Visual Treat with a Western Touch

One of Vidaamuyarchi’s greatest strengths is its visual storytelling. Cinematographer Om Prakash uses Azerbaijan’s landscape to full effect, capturing its eerie silence and endless desert roads, evoking the essence of classic westerns. The café sequence, reminiscent of roadside saloons in American films, is a particular standout, adding to the film’s unique tone.

Ajith’s Vulnerability – A Refreshing Change

Ajith Kumar’s portrayal of Arjun is unlike his usual larger-than-life action roles. He is vulnerable, desperate, and far from invincible. The first half sees him broken – emotionally and physically – as he scrambles to make sense of the situation. He’s not a superhuman who punches his way out of trouble but a man struggling against forces bigger than him.

However, his character arc feels inconsistent. Initially, Arjun’s reactions to adversity are raw and believable. But as the film progresses, his shift into a more forceful personality happens a bit too suddenly. His confrontations—whether with café patrons, police officers, or Rakshith—lack layers, often making him seem one-note in his desperation. A more gradual development into a relentless, even ruthless, version of Arjun could have added more depth to his transformation.

A Rushed Yet Tense Second Half

The second half accelerates the tension, though some parts feel rushed and predictable. The villains manipulate the situation repeatedly, and while this sustains the suspense, it also tests the audience’s patience. The climax, though engaging, feels hurried, leaving certain character motivations underexplored.

Kayal’s reasons for divorcing Arjun also seem flimsy, which diminishes the emotional weight of their conflict. Had her perspective been fleshed out more, her choices would have carried greater impact.

Anirudh’s Score – A Mixed Bag

While Anirudh’s background score generally enhances the film’s mood, it doesn’t stand out as his best work. The music complements the tension but lacks the signature impact that his compositions usually bring to high-stakes moments. The songs, though few, blend naturally into the narrative without disrupting the flow.

Final Verdict

Vidaamuyarchi is a bold experiment that breaks away from the typical mass-hero template. While it may disappoint those expecting over-the-top action and grand dialogues, it compensates with its immersive cinematography, well-crafted suspense, and Ajith’s restrained performance. However, its hurried second half and lack of deeper emotional resonance prevent it from reaching its full potential.

​Marvel Studios’ “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”—in theatres 25th July 2025—invited a live audience and key cast members to U.S. Space & Rocket Center, HOME of Space Camp®️, in Huntsville, Alabama, to officially launch the film’s inaugural trailer. Fans from around the world tuned in via a Marvel livestream to catch the big debut in real time with the Saturn 5 rocket serving as the backdrop.

Cast members starring as Marvel’s First Family—Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn & Ebon Moss-Bachrach—commandeered the countdown and launch surrounded by fans outside the National Geographic Theater. Angélique Roché hosted the event that included a Q&A with the stars.
