The VELS Group marked a significant milestone with the grand inauguration of the VELS Trade & Convention Centre at Chembarambakkam, Chennai, in the presence of eminent dignitaries from politics, cinema, academia, industry and culture.

The prestigious inaugural ceremony was graced by Thiru Thangam Thennarasu, Hon’ble Minister for Finance and Human Resources Management, Government of Tamil Nadu, and Padma Bhushan Dr. Kamal Haasan, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and renowned actor.

The event was presided over by Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh, Founder-Chancellor of VELS University and Chairman of VELS Group of Institutions and Companies, who formally inaugurated the VELS Trade & Convention Centre.

In his special address, Padma Bhushan Dr. Kamal Haasan remarked that Chennai has today emerged as a pan-India hub for film production. He encouraged the younger generation to take Tamil cinema to the next level and expressed confidence in the future of the industry, citing the emergence of new-age visionaries. Referring to Ms. Kushmitha Ganesh, he said that while there were earlier concerns about the fading glow of Tamil cinema, the leadership and creativity of the younger generation reassured him that the industry is set to reach greater national and global heights.

திரைப்படத்துறைக்கும், திராவிட இயக்கத்துக்கும் உள்ள உறவு வரலாற்று பக்கங்களில் பொறிக்கப்பட்டவை. கலைஞர்களின் வாழ்வாதாரத்தை பாதுகாக்கும் வகையில் 2009-ம் ஆண்டு கருணாநிதியால் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட திரைப்பட தொழிலாளர் நல வாரியம் இன்றைக்கு 27 ஆயிரம் உறுப்பினர்களைக் கொண்டு சிறப்பாக செயல்பட்டு வருகிறது. திமுக அரசு பொறுப்பேற்ற பிறகு கல்வி உதவித்தொகை, திருமண உதவித்தொகை போன்றவைகள் எல்லாம் தொழிலாளர் நல வாரியத்தில் உறுப்பினர்களாக இருக்கக்கூடியவர்களுக்கு வழங்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது. சென்னை பூந்தமல்லி அருகே உள்ள குத்தம்பாக்கத்தில் சுமார் 150 ஏக்கர் பரப்பளவில் ரூ 500 கோடி மதிப்பில் வி.எப்.எக்ஸ்., அனிமேஷன் வசதிகளுடன் கூடிய அதிநவீன திரைப்பட நகரம் அமைக்கும் பூர்வாங்க பணிகள் தொடங்கி இருக்கிறது. தமிழ்நாடு அரசு எம்.ஜி.ஆர். திரைப்பட மற்றும் தொலைக்காட்சி பயிற்சி நிறுவனத்திற்கு சுமார் ரூ.40 கோடி மதிப்பில் 3 புதிய அதிநவீன படப்பிடிப்பு தளங்கள் கட்டப்பட்டு வருகின்றன. தமிழ்நாடு அரசு வழங்கும் திரைப்பட விருதுகளை பொருத்தவரை இந்த அரசு பொறுப்பேற்ற பிறகு ஏறத்தாழ 2009-ம் ஆண்டு முதல் பாக்கியிருந்த விருதுகள் அனைத்தும் வழங்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றன. 2016 முதல் 2022 வரையிலான விருதுகள் விரைவில் வழங்கப்பட இருக்கின்றன. தொடர்ந்து இந்த அரசு திரையுலகுக்கு உறுதுணையாக இருக்கும்.

The Hollywood independent feature film ‘Tether’, marking the directorial debut of Hariharasudhen Nagarajan, has been officially selected for the World Cinema Competition at the 23rd Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF).

The film will have two public screenings: December 14, 2025, 10:00 AM – Seasons, Sathyam Cinemas and December 18, 2025, 9:45 AM – Screen 1, INOX Citi Centre.

Directed and produced by Hariharasudhen Nagarajan and written by Anghus Houvouras, ‘Tether’ is a gripping drama that examines the devastating aftermath of a school mass shooting. The story intimately follows a grieving family struggling with the loss of their daughter and the clinically depressed former school resource officer who froze in the critical moment, unable to act: a hesitation that cost the lives of 15 children.

Hariharasudhen Nagarajan harbours a deep passion for filmmaking and telling stories that are set within intimate, emotionally charged situations. ‘Tether,’ his first feature, self-funded and shot in ten days, addresses a socially relevant topic through the lens of human empathy. His South Indian origins and subsequent exposure to various languages of cinema and life in the United States make him an accessible voice in putting drama on screen.

‘Tether’, currently in its festival run, was an Official Selection of Dances With Films: Los Angeles (recognized by USA Today as a Top 10 North American Film Festival), where it was nominated for the Best Narrative Feature. The film and his work have earned coverage in esteemed publications such as Deadline, Broadway World, and AU Review. Hariharasudhen’s short films have been screened at Canadian Screen Award qualifying festivals. His upcoming Tamil feature release, where he worked as an Additional Screenplay Writer, is directed by Madhumita.

அமெரிக்காவில் வசிக்கும் சென்னையை சேர்ந்த தமிழர் ஹரிஹரசுதன் நாகராஜன், ‘டெதர்’ மூலம் இயக்குநராகவும் தயாரிப்பாளராகவும் முத்திரை பதித்துள்ளார்

ஹாலிவுட் சுயாதீன திரைப்படமான ‘டெதர்’, 23வது சென்னை சர்வதேச திரைப்பட விழாவில் (CIFF) உலக சினிமா போட்டிக்கு அதிகாரப்பூர்வமாகத் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இப்படத்தை ஹரிஹரசுதன் நாகராஜன் தயாரித்து இயக்கியுள்ளார்.

சென்னை சர்வதேச திரைப்பட விழாவில் இப்படம் இரு முறை திரையிடப்படுகிறது. டிசம்பர் 14 அன்று காலை 10:00 மணிக்கு சத்யம் சினிமாஸ் சீசன்ஸ் அரங்கிலும் டிசம்பர் 18 அன்று காலை 9:45 மணிக்கு ஐநாக்ஸ் சிட்டி சென்டரில் ஸ்க்ரீன் 1லும் ‘டெதர்’ திரையிடப்படும்.

அங்கஸ் ஹூவோராஸ் எழுத்தில் ஹரிஹரசுதன் நாகராஜன் இயக்கி தயாரித்துள்ள‌ ‘டெதர்’, பள்ளியில் நடைபெறும் துப்பாக்கிச் சூடு சம்பவத்தின் விளைவுகளை ஆராய்கிறது. மகளின் இழப்பால் துக்கத்தில் தவிக்கும் ஒரு குடும்பம், மருத்துவ ரீதியாக மனச்சோர்வடைந்த முன்னாள் பள்ளி அதிகாரி, ஆபத்தை எதிர்கொள்ளும் 15 குழந்தைகளை காப்பாற்ற முடியாமல் உறைந்து நிற்பது என இக்கதை சுழல்கிறது.

The first day of shooting for Ganesh K. Babu Productions’ upcoming film—tentatively titled GRK19, directed by debutant Dhina Raghavan and starring Gautham Ram karthik has began on an auspicious note.

Acclaimed filmmaker Mari Selvaraj visited the shooting spot on Day 1 (8.12.2025), extended his warm wishes to the entire team, and officially inaugurated the shoot by giving the first clap. His presence added great encouragement and positive energy to the cast and crew of the project, which is currently progressing under the working title (GRK19).

The team expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Director Mari Selvaraj for gracing the occasion and motivating them at the very start of this promising journey.
