Vasundhara is preparing for her releases in both Tamil and Telugu.
Despite being one of five female leads in Director SP Jananathan’s Peraanmai, Vasundhara has gained recognition by showcasing her acting skills in spunky and daring roles.
Having had the luck to work with directors who prioritise fully fleshed out characters and stories, Vasundhara has chosen to work in offbeat films like Bakrid and Thalaikoothal. Which is why she is able to stay and make a mark for herself in the film industry over many years. Similarly, she’s also done an important and difficult role in Director Siva and Actor Suriya’s larger than life film, Kanguva. Today she speaks with us regarding her Kanguva experience and her upcoming films in both Tamil and Telugu.
When I first got the call from Siva sir and Studio Green’s offices I was pleasantly surprised. He mentioned that he’d seen my work in Bakrid, particularly the song, and wanted to cast me. When we met he told me about my character and role himself. Despite being such a well established and famous director he took the time to narrate my role himself and didn’t hand off the responsibility to a associate. That was a pleasant surprise.
The rain played havoc during our shoot in Kodai with heavy winds destroying the sets. Art director Milan had to redo it each time and that caused quite a significant delay. Despite all the stress director Siva didn’t bat an eyelid. He focused on sending everyone back to the hotel safely and worked on whatever was next. Not just that, amongst all the films I’ve shot this is the only one where I didn’t hear a single person scream or shout. Siva sir didn’t stress out or lose his temper for anything. That alone was enough to give all of us more confidence. Even actor Suriya didn’t make his presence felt. He was normal and calm but when the shot was ready he completely changed.
These days films are having a tougher time because everyone has the mindset that if they can miss it in the theatres and watch it on OTT anyway. A lot of good films are losing out on audiences because of this mindset. For example Bakrid didn’t do well in theatres but I still get messages and comments about how this excellent film missed out on a theatre run. It isn’t just the story that matters. Even the time of release matters.
Currently I’ve just acted in a negative role in a Telugu film where Priyadarshi is the lead actor. Director Sunil who is new to direction but has a lot of experience in the industry is the director. It’s a modern and powerful role. I really enjoyed the vibe on set in this film as everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming. I’m really glad to have gotten to work with such a good team in Telugu and hope it brings me more work in that industry.
In Tamil I’m working with Aishwarya Rajesh in a film called Kali. This is also a modern role with shades of grey. It was very fun because it’s quite opposite to my character in real life and presented quite a challenge. The director is Lakshmi Narayan Raju who previously directed the series Pub Goa.
In 2025 these two films will probably release first. Apart from these I’m in talks and am shooting for a few other projects as well. News regarding the same should release from the production side soon. As I mentioned earlier, I’m currently focusing on modern roles or different roles with a negative shade since that seems to be a lot more fun to work on. I’m also hoping to meet you in a different avatar than just that of an actor. Towards that end I’m pursuing my artistic goals outside the industry as well and I hope you’ll like my work there.

இயக்குநர் எஸ்.பி ஜனநாதன் இயக்கிய பேராண்மை படத்தில் ஐந்து நாயகிகளில் ஒருவராக நடித்திருந்தாலும் அவர்களில் துடுக்கும் மிடுக்குமாக துள்ளலான நடிப்பை வெளிப்படுத்தி தனக்கென தனி அடையாளம் பெற்றவர் நடிகை வசுந்தரா. தொடர்ந்து கதைக்கும் கதாபாத்திரங்களுக்கும் முக்கியத்துவம் கொடுக்கும் இயக்குநர்களின் படங்களில் கதாநாயகியாக நடிக்கும் அதிர்ஷ்ட வாய்ப்பையும் பெற்ற வசுந்தரா பக்ரீத், தலைக்கூத்தல் போன்ற செலக்டிவ்வான நல்ல படங்களில் நல்ல கதாபாத்திரங்களில் மட்டுமே நடித்து வருகிறார். அதனால் தான் இத்தனை வருட திரையுலக பயனத்தில் அவரால் நிலையாக தொடர்ந்து பயணிக்க முடிகிறது.
அந்தவகையில் கடந்த வருட இறுதியில் இயக்குநர் சிவா இயக்கத்தில் சூர்யா நடிப்பில் மிகப் பிரமாண்டமாக உருவாகி வெளியான ‘கங்குவா’ படத்தில் மிக முக்கியமான கதாபாத்திரத்தில் நடித்திருந்தார் வசுந்தரா. கங்குவா படத்தில் பணியாற்றிய அனுபவம் குறித்தும் அடுத்து தமிழ், தெலுங்கில் தான் நடித்து வரும் படங்கள் குறித்தும் நம்மிடம் பகிர்ந்துகொண்டார் வசுந்தரா..
“ஸ்டுடியோ கிரீன் நிறுவனத்தில் இருந்து சிவா சார் படத்தில் ஆடிசனுக்காக அழைக்கிறார்கள் என்றபோது என்னால் முதலில் நம்ப முடியவில்லை. ஆனால் பக்ரீத் படத்தில் என் நடிப்பைப் பார்த்து விட்டு தான் இந்த படத்திற்காக அழைத்ததாக சிவா சார் சொன்னார். அந்த ஆடிசன் தினத்தன்று என்னுடைய கதாபாத்திரம் குறித்து ரொம்பவே டீடைல் ஆக எனக்கு விளக்கினார். உதவி இயக்குநர்களை விட்டு விளக்கம் சொல்ல வைக்காமல் இப்படி ஒரு பெரிய இயக்குநர் தானே விளக்கியது எனக்கு ரொம்பவே பிடித்திருந்தது. சில சமயங்களில் என் காட்சிகள் குறித்த என்னுடைய அபிப்பிராயங்களையும் அவர் கேட்டுத் தெரிந்து கொண்டார்.
மழையினால் தான் படப்பிடிப்பு அதிக நாட்கள் தாமதமானது. இயற்கையான லொகேஷனில் போடப்பட்ட சில செட்டுகள் ஒவ்வொரு முறையும் சேதமாகி மீண்டும் அவை புதிதாக உருவாக்கப்பட்டு இதற்கே நிறைய காலம் ஆகிவிட்டது. ஆனால் இயக்குநர் சிவா இதற்கெல்லாம் அலட்டிக் கொள்ளவே மாட்டார். அனைவரும் பத்திரமாக ரூமுக்கு கிளம்பிச் செல்லுங்கள் என்று கூறிவிட்டு அடுத்து என்ன செய்வது என பார்க்க ஆரம்பித்து விடுவார்.
அதுமட்டுமல்ல இதுநாள் வரை நான் பணியாற்றிய படங்களின் படப்பிடிப்பு தளத்தில் யாரும் கத்தி கூச்சல் போடாமல் அமைதியாக ஒரு படப்பிடிப்பு நடந்தது என்றால் அது கங்குவாவாகத்தான் இருக்கும். எனக்கு இது வித்தியாசமான முதல் அனுபவமாக இருந்தது. சிவா சார் எதற்கும் கோபப்படவே இல்லை.. அதுவே எனக்கு இன்னும் நிறைய தன்னம்பிக்கையை கொடுத்தது..
அதேபோல படப்பிடிப்புத் தளத்தில் நடிகர் சூர்யா தனது இருப்பைக் காட்டிக் கொள்ள வேண்டும் என எந்த மெனக்கடலும் இன்றி அமைதியாக இருந்தார். ஷாட் என வந்துவிட்டால் புது ஆளாக மாறிவிடுவார்.
இப்போதைய காலகட்டத்தில் தியேட்டருக்குச் சென்று படங்களைப் பார்க்கும் மனநிலை குறைந்து விட்டது. ஓடிடியில் வரும்போது பார்த்துக் கொள்ளலாம் என்கிற எண்ணமும் பலரிடம் உருவாகிவிட்டது. என்னுடைய பக்ரீத் படத்தை இப்போது ஓடிடியில் பார்ப்பவர்கள் எல்லாம் இந்த படம் தியேட்டரில் பார்க்கவேண்டிய படம் என இப்போது பாராட்டுகிறார்கள். ஒரு படம் வெளியாகும்போது கதை என்பதை விட அது வெளியாகும் நேரமும் நன்றாக இருக்க வேண்டும்
தெலுங்கில் தற்போது இன்னும் பெயர் வைக்கப்படாத ஒரு படத்தில் முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்த நெகடிவ் சாயலில் நடித்து வருகிறேன். பிரியதர்ஷி கதாநாயகனாக நடிக்கிறார். பல வருட அனுபவம் வாய்ந்த அறிமுக இயக்குநர் சுனில் என்பவர் இந்த படத்தை இயக்கி வருகிறார். இதில் ரொம்பவே மாடர்ன் ஆன ஒரு கெத்தான கதாபாத்திரத்தில் நடித்திருக்கிறேன். படத்தின் ஹீரோ, இயக்குநர் எல்லோருமே இதில் சிறப்பாக அமைந்துவிட்டன.
கிட்டத்தட்ட தெலுங்கு ஒரு நல்ல வழிகாட்டியான திரைப்படம் கிடைத்திருப்பதாக தான் நான் நினைக்கிறேன். இனி வரும் நாட்களில் தெலுங்கு திரையுலகிலும் கூடுதல் கவனம் செலுத்த முடிவு செய்து இருக்கிறேன். இது போன்ற மாடர்ன் கதாபாத்திரங்களில் நடிக்கவே விரும்புகிறேன்.
தமிழில் ஐஸ்வர்யா ராஜேஷுடன் இணைந்து கலி என்கிற படத்தில் நடித்திருக்கிறேன். இதிலும் மாடர்ன் பெண்ணாகத்தான் நடித்திருக்கிறேன். என்னுடைய உண்மையான குணாதிசயத்திற்கு அப்படியே முற்றிலும் மாறான கதாபாத்திரம். அதனால் ரொம்பவே ரசித்து நடிக்க முடிந்தது. இதில் எனக்கு நெகட்டிவ் சாயல் கலந்த கதாபாத்திரம்.
லட்சுமி நாராயணன் ராஜு இந்த படத்தை இயக்கி வருகிறார். பிக்சல் புரொடக்சன்ஸ் இந்தப்படத்தை தயாரித்துள்ளது.
அந்த வகையில் இந்த வருடம் எனது இரண்டு படங்கள் அடுத்தடுத்து விரைவில் வெளியாக இருக்கின்றன. இன்னும் சில படங்கள் படப்பிடிப்பிலும் மற்றும் பேச்சு வார்த்தையிலும் இருக்கின்றன. அது குறித்து முறையாக தயாரிப்பாளர் தரப்பிலிருந்து அறிவிப்புகள் வெளியாகும். அதுபற்றி இப்போது நான் பேச முடியாது.
இனி பெரும்பாலும் முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்த மாடர்னான கொஞ்சம் கெத்தான அதே சமயம் கொஞ்சம் நெகட்டிவ் சாயல் கொண்ட கதாபாத்திரங்களில் நடிக்க ரொம்பவே ஆர்வமாக இருக்கிறேன். இதற்காக என்னுடைய ஹேர்ஸ்டைலில் கூட சில மாறுதல்களை செய்து இருக்கிறேன்” என்கிறார் வசுந்தரா.
