The audio and trailer launch of Ponniyin Selvan 2 was held yesterday evening in Chennai. The occasion witnessed the entire team members of Ponniyin Selvan including the cast and crew comprising Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and many others. Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan and actor Silambarasan were present as well.

My favourite character in the book is Vanthiya Thevan. Actor Karthi has done this role excellently. I wish the entire team for the grand success of this film.”

“MGR said that he wanted to produce Ponniyin Selvan and asked me to direct the film with Kamal Haasan as Vanthiya Thevan and Sridevi as Kundavai. But the project didn’t happen. I fe that i would have definitely committed a blunder in the making and I am in awe of Mani Ratnam that he has made a fabulous adaptation. Writer Kalki had left the character of Nandini incomplete in his book. I request Mani Ratnam to extend her character in his future work.”

Somehow I have rendered a voice for this movie. Recently I told AR Rahman that we as good and dedicated and passionate people in the industry should work together. We have little time and I am not saying this as age factor, but for everyone. Mani Ratnam has created such an epic story and is sitting silently. Subaskaran has spent a whopping budget for the film and Mani Ratnam has created the project with so much magic. He has again made Aishwarya Rai look like world’s beautiful woman. I personally appreciated Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi and others for their wonderful contribution. Ponniyin Selvan is not a golden period of Cholas but for the entire Tamil film industry as well. Just like our honorable Minister Durai Murugan said Ponniyin Selvan 2 is going to witness double success. I congratulate the entire team for their lovely work. Vikram Gaekwad has worked with me from Maruthanayagam. I wish him speedy recovery and bounce back. Making such a movie isn’t an easy deal. “Mani Ratnam is the main reason I am here. While shooting for Vaanam Kottattum, Mani sir visited the sets for three times and I never knew the reason. But then I realised he visualized me as the Periya Pazhuvettarayar. While working with Mani sir, I was little nervous about his reaction. My first scene in PS1 was with Aishwarya and I was nervous again. He told me if I am not able to romance properly. (Jokingly) He is asking someone who married twice. On a serious note, Mani Ratnam has done a tremendous work. It’s been a wonderful experience working with the entire team.”

Actor Silambarasan said..,

“I owe a lot to Mani Ratnam sir for being such a great inspiration. I am usually a night person and it’s because of Mani sir I understood the importance and value of morning. Today if I am able to go for shoot early morning, it’s because of Mani sir. AR Rahman sir has given a wonderful music. Everyone has done such a lovely work for this movie.” When asked which role he would have desired to play in Ponniyin Selvan, he replied, “Any role that Mani sir would give me.”

“This isn’t looking like an audio function, but a success event. I am not as lucky as Sarath sir (Joking) as my only scene with Aishwarya mam was edited. It was such a humble and wonderful and experience working with you all. Rahman ji always makes good music. All the actors have done a beautiful job. I will miss the beautiful moments working with the entire team.”

ரொம்ப மகிழ்ச்சியாக உள்ளது. பொன்னியின் செல்வன் முதல் பகுதி என்பது தொடக்கம் தான். இரண்டாவது தான் முழுமையானது. எதிர்பார்ப்பு மிக்க நாளாக உள்ளது. முதல் பகுதியின் இசை வெளியீட்டு விழா நடந்த போது இரண்டு விஷயம் சொன்னேன். செப்டம்பர் மாதம் சோழன் பற்றி உலகம் தெரிந்து கொள்ளும் என்று சொன்னேன். அதே போல படம் வெளியாகி 45 நாட்களுக்கு பிறகு சுவீடன் நாட்டில் சார்கோ நகரத்தில் இருக்கும் என் நண்பர். இப்படம் கிட்டத்தட்ட 3 வாரங்கள் “பொன்னியின் செல்வன் – 1” வெற்றிகரமாக ஓடியது என்று சொன்னார். உலகம் முழுவதும் சோழர்கள் பற்றி கொண்டு சேர்த்துள்ளோம் என்பது மகிழ்ச்சியாக உள்ளது என்றார்.

நடிகை குஷ்பூ சுந்தர் பேசியபோது..,

என்னுடைய அபிமான படம் எது என்று கேட்டாலே நான் சொல்வது மௌன ராகம் படம் தான். தமிழ் படங்களில் மணி ரத்னம் என்று சொன்னாலே அது தனி தான் என்றார்.

நடிகை ரேவதி பேசியபோது..,

லட்சக்கணக்கான மக்கள் படித்த புத்தகம் தற்போது 40 வருடங்கள் கழித்து திரைப்படமாக வந்துள்ளது.
நான் பார்த்த மணி ரத்னம் வேறு. இருவர் எனக்கு மிகவும் பிடித்த திரைப்படம். தமிழ் மண்ணில் இருந்து உலகத்திற்கே அளித்துள்ளார் மணிரத்னம். இந்த படத்தில் நடிக்கவில்லையே என்ற ஆதங்கம் எனக்கு எப்போதும் இருக்கும்.

நடிகை சுஹாசினி மணி ரத்னம் பேசியபோது..,

மணிரத்னம் எப்போதும் ரொமேண்டிக் நிறைந்தவர். அவர் படத்தில் இருக்கும் நாயகிகளுக்கே அவ்வளவு காதல் இருக்கு என்றால், அவருடைய நிரந்தர நாயகி என்மீது எவ்வளவு காதல் இருக்கும்.
அவர் படங்களில் நாயகன் தான் எனக்கு மிகவும் பிடித்த திரைப்படம் என்றார்.

நடிகர் சரத்குமார் பேசியபோது..,

மணிரத்னம் இயக்கத்தில் நடிக்கிறோம் என்று சொன்னபோது. அவர் திட்டிவிடுவார் என்று நினைத்தேன். முதல் காட்சியே ஐஸ்வர்யா ராய் உடன் தான். எனக்கு காதல் என்றாலே வராது. 
படத்தில் 6 பணி பெண்கள் எனது உடையை கழற்றுவார்கள். அதேபோல் வீட்டிலும் இருந்தாலும் நன்றாக இருக்கும் என்று நினைப்பேன். ஆனால், அதை படத்தில் வைத்ததற்கு நன்றி.
நான் காதல் செய்து இரண்டு முறை திருமணம் செய்தேன் என்னைப்பார்த்து ரொமேன்ஸ் வராதா என்று கேட்டார் மணிரத்னம். முதலில் காதல் திருமணம் இரண்டாவது காதல் திருமணம் என எனக்கு நடந்த இரண்டு திருமணங்களும் காதல் திருமணங்கள் தான். இன்றைக்கும் பலப்பேர் என்னை காதலிப்பதாக சொல்கிறார்கள்.
ஐஸ்வர்யாவின் கழுத்தை திருப்பும் பாக்கியம் எனக்கு மட்டுமே கிடைத்துள்ளது. உலக அழகியை கட்டிப்பிடிக்கும் காட்சியை எனக்காக வைத்ததற்கு மணிரத்னம் அவர்களுக்கு நன்றி. இதை கண்டு, படப்பிடிப்பு தளத்தில் பலரும் “நான் பெரும் பாக்கியசாலி” என்றனர். அதிலும் ரீடேக் எடுக்கும் காட்சியில் ஒளிப்பதிவாளர் ரவி வர்மன் என்னிடம் அவரின் வருத்தத்தையும் தெரிவித்தார்.

பொன்னியின் செல்வன் படத்தின் முதல் பாகம் நாங்கள் எதிர்பார்த்ததை விட பெரிய அளவில் வெற்றி பெற்றது. அதே போல் “பொன்னியின் செல்வன் – 2” திரைப்படமும் வெற்றியடைய செய்யவேண்டும். எனக்கும், அண்ணன் சுபாஷ்கரன் அவர்களுக்கும், லைகா நிறுவனத்திற்கும் இப்படத்தை தயாரித்தது மிகவும் பெருமையாக உள்ளது. நன்றி என்றார்.

ஒரு வரலாற்று கதையை வரலாற்றில் நிற்கும் அளவில் படமாக்கிய அனைவருக்கும் நன்றி. நான் படிக்கின்ற காலத்தில் 5 முறை படித்திருக்கிறேன். இக்கதையை படமாக்குவதாக சுபாஷ்கரன் என்னிடம் கூறினார். நான் கதையை படித்தீர்களா என்று கேட்டதற்கு அவர் இல்லை என்றார். அப்போது, இப்படத்தை நீங்கள் எடுக்க வேண்டாம் என்றேன். அவர் எடுத்தே தீருவேன் என்றார். கதைகளை படமாக்குவது எளிது, காவியங்களை படமாக்குவது கடினம் என்று கூறினேன். யார் நடிக்கிறார்கள் என்று கேட்டேன். அரைமனதாக ஒப்புக்கொண்டேன். இயக்குநர் யார் என்று கேட்டேன். மணிரத்னம் என்றார். அவர் இருட்டிலேயே படம் எடுப்பவர் இக்கதைக்கு ஒத்துவரமாட்டார் வேண்டாம் என்றேன். ஆனால், படத்தை பார்த்துவிட்டு அந்த எண்ணத்தை மாற்றிவிட்டேன். வீட்டில் இருந்தே சல்யூட் வைத்தேன். 
வந்தியத்தேவன் கதாபாத்திரத்தில் கார்த்தி சிறப்பாக நடித்துள்ளார். எனது தொகுதிக்குட்பட்ட ஊர்தான் வந்தியத்தேவனின் ஊர்‌. அதனால் எனக்கு ஒரு மகிழ்ச்சி. கமல்ஹாசனுக்கு கருணாநிதி கலைஞானி என பெயரிட்டார். அவருக்கு இணையானவர் திரையுலகில் இன்றைக்கு இல்லை. என்றைக்கும் இல்லை. எனது பேச்சைக் கேட்காமல் இப்படத்தை எடுத்து வெற்றி கண்ட சுபாஷ்கரனுக்கு வாழ்த்துகள். ஒரு படத்தின்‌ மூலம் ஒரு தமிழ் மன்னனை அறிமுகப்படுத்திய‌ பெருமை சுபாஷ்கரனை சேரும். முதல் பாகத்தை விட இரண்டாவது பாகம் இரண்டு மடங்கு ஓடும். வாழ்த்துக்கள், என்றார்.

இயக்குநர் இமயம் பாரதிராஜா பேசியபோது..,

9ம் வகுப்பு படிக்கும்போது பொன்னியின் செல்வன் படித்தேன். எந்த படம் வேண்டுமானலும் எடுக்கலாம்.‌ ஆனால், சரித்திர கதையை பிசகாமல் எடுக்கணும். மணிரத்னம் ஜீனியஸ். இப்படத்தை எம்ஜிஆர் எடுக்க ஆசைப்பட்டார். கமல், ஸ்ரீ தேவி, என்னை வைத்து எம்ஜிஆர் பேசினார். வந்தியத்தேவனாக கமலை வைத்து எடுக்க நினைத்தார். ஆனால், அதன் பிறகு எம்ஜிஆருக்கு உடல்நலக்குறைவு ஏற்பட்டது. நான் சொதப்பிவிடுவேன் என்று கடவுள் மணிரத்னத்தை எடுக்க வைத்துவிட்டார். நாம் நிறை கொடுத்துவைத்தவர்கள். நம்மிடம்‌ நிறைய கலைஞர்கள் உள்ளனர். காதல் இல்லாமல் நாம் கலைஞர்கள் கிடையாது. காதல் ஒன்றுதான் கலைஞனை வளர்க்கிறது. மணிரத்னம் ரொமான்டிக் என்று வெளியே சொல்வது இல்லை. கமல் சொல்லி விடுவார். இப்படத்தில் கதாநாயகிகளை லட்டு லட்டாக தேர்வு செய்துள்ளார். எல்லோரையும் காதலிக்கலாம் போல. நந்தினியை, குந்தவையை, பூங்குழலியை காதலிக்கலாம். உலகம் முழுவதும் இன்று பொன்னியின் செல்வன் பற்றி விவாதிக்கின்றனர். இந்தியாவை தமிழ்நாடு பக்கம் திரும்பிப் பார்க்க வைத்த இயக்குனர் மணிரத்னம். நான் கடைசிவரை கடவுளிடம் போராடி மணிரத்னம் செய்வதை பார்த்துவிட்டுதான் போவேன் என்றார்.

உலக நாயகன் கமல்ஹாசன் பேசியபோது..,

சின்ன வயதில் இருந்து என்னை இந்த மேடையில் நிறுத்தி வைத்துள்ள தமிழ் மக்களுக்கு நன்றி. அதன் உணர்வை எப்படி புரிந்துகொள்ள வேண்டும் என்று தம்பி சிம்புவிற்கு தெரியும். இது தொழில் அல்ல கடமை. சந்தோஷமாக இருக்கிறேன் அதற்கு சம்பளமும் தருகிறார்கள். சிறந்த கலைஞர்களுடன் பணியாற்றிய வாய்ப்பு கிடைத்துள்ளது. இந்த படம் போன்று சில படங்கள் கைவிட்டும்போனது. 
மணிரத்னத்தை பார்த்து பொறாமை கொள்ளும் நபரில் நானும் ஒருவன். முதலாமானவர் பாரதிராஜா. இப்படி பட்ட‌ படத்தை இயக்கி விட்டு அமைதியாக மணிரத்னம் அமர்ந்திருக்கிறார். இது எங்கே போகும் என்பதை புரிந்து கொள்ள முடிந்தது. துபாயில் ஏ ஆர் ரகுமான் ஆர்கஸ்ட்ராவில் பாடலை கேட்கும் வாய்ப்பு கிடைத்தது. இதில் பொறாமைப்பட நேரமில்லை. வாழ்க்கை சிறியது. சினிமா வாய்ப்பு இன்னமும் சிறியது. அதில் கிடைக்கும் வாய்ப்புகளை ஒன்றாக இருந்து ரசிக்க வேண்டும். காதலா வீரமா என்றார்கள். காதலுடன் கலந்த வீரம் வேண்டும். காதலும் வீரமும் இன்றி தமிழ் கலாச்சாரம் கிடையாது. இதுதான் நம்மை இங்கு கொண்டு வந்து சேர்த்துள்ளது. பக்திமார்க்கம் பிறகு வந்ததுதான் ‌. உலக அழகி ஐஸ்வர்யா ராய் என்பதை இப்படத்தில் மீண்டும் நம்மிடம் மணிரத்னம் அறிமுகப்படுத்தினார். இதில் யாராவது சொதப்பினாலும் கனவு கலைந்துவிடும். இது சோழர்களுக்கு மட்டுமல்ல தமிழ் சினிமாவுக்கும் பொற்காலம். இதனை தூக்கிப்பிடிக்க வேண்டும். அதற்கு எனக்கு ஒரு வாய்ப்பு கிடைத்ததில் இவர்களுக்கு வாழ்த்து சொல்கின்றேன். இன்னும் பல வெற்றி மேடைகள் மணிரத்னத்திற்கு காத்துக்கொண்டு உள்ளது. அதில் எனக்கும் ஒரு பங்கு இருக்க வேண்டும் என்ற பேராசை எனக்கு உள்ளது. 
இதுபோன்ற வரலாற்று படம் எடுக்க முடியாது என்ற பயம் எல்லோருக்குமே உண்டு. மணிரத்னத்திற்கும் அந்த பயம் இருந்திருக்கும். ஆனால் வீரம்னா என்னனு தெரியுமா பயம் இல்லாதது போன்று நடிப்பது . நானும் மணிரத்னமும் இணையும் படம் பற்றி இப்போது பேச வேண்டாம். இது பொன்னியின் செல்வன் 2க்கான மேடை என்றார்.

இசையமைப்பாளர் ஏ.ஆர்.ரஹ்மான் பேசியபோது..,

எனக்கு மணிரத்னம் 31 வருடங்களாக வேலை கொடுத்து வருகிறார். சில நேரம் அவரை பற்றி பேசும்போது எப்போது கம் பேக் தரப் போகிறீர்கள் என்று கேட்கிறார்கள். என்னை 3 வருடங்களுக்கு ஒருமுறை அப்படி கேட்பார்கள். அவர் வைத்த படியில் நாம் அனைவரும் சென்று கொண்டிருக்கிறோம் என்றார்.

நடிகர் பார்த்திபன் பேசியபோது.., 

சரத்குமார் ஐஸ்வர்யா ராய் தனக்கு ஜோடி என்றதும் தன் வயதிற்கு பொருந்தாது என்று மறுத்திருக்க வேண்டும். ஆனால், அவர் எல்லோருடைய பொறாமைகளையும் சம்பாதித்துவிட்டார்.
ராகுல்காந்தியின் இரண்டு வருட சிறை தண்டனை பற்றி அன்றே கண்ணதாசன் எழுதியுள்ளதாக வந்திருந்தது. அதை என்னவென்று திறந்து பார்த்தால் இன்று எவரும் பேதம் சொன்னால் இரண்டு வருடம் ஜெயில் உண்டு என்று அன்றே எழுதியுள்ளதாக குறிப்பிட்டிருந்தனர்.

நடிகர் ஜெயம் ரவி பேசியபோது..,

ரசிகர்களை நான் பிரித்து பார்த்து பேசவில்லை. பொன்னியின் செல்வன் ரசிகர்கள் எல்லோருக்கும் நன்றி. பொன்னியின் செல்வன் படம் பார்க்க தியேட்டருக்கு ஆக்ஷிஜன் சிலிண்டர் உடன் வந்தவர்களில் எல்லாம் நான் பார்த்தேன்.
ஒரு கதையை இரண்டு படமாக எடுத்து வைத்துவிட்டு முதலில் இதை பாருங்கள் பின்பு இதை காட்டுகிறேன் என்று சொன்னவர் தான் மணி ரத்னம்.
கார்த்தி இல்லையென்றால் இந்த இரண்டு பாகத்தில் என்னால் முழுமையாக நடித்திருக்க முடியாது.

நடிகர் கார்த்தி பேசியபோது..,

வெறும் ஆசையோடு வந்த என்னை எந்த கேள்வியும் கேட்காமல் சேர்த்துக் கொண்டார் மணிரத்னம் சார்.
இதுவரை தமிழ் படங்கள் ரிலீஸ் ஆகாத ஊர்களின் தியேட்டர்களில் எல்லாம் பொன்னியின் செல்வன் திரைப்படம் வெளியாகி இருக்கிறது
நான் கைதி படப்பிடிப்பில் இருந்தேன். அப்போது அவரிடம் இருந்து அழைப்பு வந்தது வந்தியத்தேவன் கதாபாத்திரத்தில் நடிக்கிறாயா என்றார், நான் சிவாஜி கணேசன் வசனங்கள் எல்லாம் பேசி நடித்துக் காட்டினேன். பொன்னியின் செல்வன் முதல் பாகத்தின் இசை வெளியீட்டு விழாவில் ரஜினி சார், கமல் சார் பேசினார்கள், அது இப்போது தான் புரிகிறது மணிரத்னம் அவர்களுக்கு என்ன வேண்டுமோ அதை கொடுக்க வேண்டும். பையா திரைப்படத்திற்கு எனக்கு நிறைய காதல் கடிதங்கள் வந்தது. பொன்னியின் செல்வன் திரைப்படத்திற்கு பிறகு இன்ஸ்டாகிராமில் எனக்கு நிறைய மெசேஜ் வருகிறது என்றார்.

நடிகை திரிஷா பேசியபோது..,

இந்த படத்தில் குந்தவை கதாபாத்திரத்தில் நடித்த பிறகு நிறைய பேர் எனக்கு குந்தவை கதாபாத்திரம் போன்று வேடமணிந்து அனுப்பினர், சிலருக்கு என்னால் நன்றி சொல்ல முடிந்தது. உயிர் எப்போதும் உங்களுடையது தான் என்று ரசிகர்களை பார்த்து கூறினார் நடிகை திரிஷா.

நடிகர் விக்ரம் பேசியபோது..,

ஆதித்த கரிகாலனால் எப்படி நந்தினியை மறக்க முடியாதோ, அதேபோல் என்னால் இந்த படத்தில் நடித்ததை மறக்க முடியாது. ஆதித்த கரிகாலன் போன்ற கதாபாத்திரம் நடிக்க வேண்டும் என்பது எனது கனவு. மணி ரத்னம் வாழும் காலத்தில் நானும் வாழ்ந்திருக்கிறேன், அவர் இயக்கிய சினிமாவில் நானும் இருக்கிறேன். இரண்டு முறை இராவணன், இரண்டு முறை பொன்னியின் செல்வன் ஆக மொத்தம் 4 முறை அவருடன் படம் நடித்திருக்கிறேன் என்றார்.

நடிகை ஐஸ்வர்யா ராய் பேசியபோது..,

இங்கு வந்திருக்கும் ரசிகர்கள் அனைவரின் அன்பிற்கும் நன்றி. முதல் நாள் கேமரா முன்னாள் நின்றது முதல் இன்று வரை நான் மணி ரத்னம் அவர்களின் மாணவியே. மேலும், பல படங்களில் என்னை அவர் இயக்கிவிட்டார். ஆனாலும் அது போதாது. இப்படத்தில் என்னுடன் நடித்திருக்கும் விக்ரம், ஜெயம் ரவி, கார்த்தி, சரத் குமார், பார்த்திபன், த்ரிஷா, ஐஸ்வர்யா லக்ஷ்மி, சோபிதா அனைவருக்கும் நன்றி. மேலும், இப்படத்தில் திரைக்கு பின்னால் வேலை செய்த அத்தனை கலைஞர்களுக்கும் நன்றி என்றார்.
