Chennai, March 30, 2023

Thiru. Ma. Subramanian, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu will inaugurate the 16thannual Indian National Stroke Conference (INSC 2023) of the Indian Stroke Association (ISA) in Chennai tomorrow. A one-day pre-conference workshop, being held as a part of INSC 2023 today, and the three-day conference, to be held from March 31- April 02, 2023 will provide an opportunity for neurologists from across the country to learn, network and find ways to tackle various kinds of stroke, the most numerically and functionally challenging condition in neurology. More than 600 delegates from across the country, are registered to attend this conference

The inaugural function of INSC 2023 will have Ms. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, Member of Parliament, as the Guest of Honour, and will be held in the presence of Dr. V.G. Pradeep Kumar, President, and Dr. Arvind Sharma, Secretary, Indian Stroke Association, and Dr. V. Natarajan, Chairman, Dr. U. Meenakshisundaram, Secretary, and Dr. Deepak Arjundas, Treasurer of INSC 2023 Organising Committee, on behalf of Madras Neuro Trust.

A highlight of INSC 2023 is ‘Stroke Gurukul’ where reputed senior neurologists would present their insights into important aspects of stroke and its treatment in the setting of a traditional Gurukulam. An exclusive short film BE FAST will be released by the Chief guest during the inaugural function. The film will emphasise the importance of early recognition of stroke and will help educate lay people about it.

Commenting about INSC 2023, Dr. U. Meenakshisundaram, said that stroke is the second most common cause of death in India and a leading cause of disability. In our country, a stroke is estimated to occur every 13 to 21 seconds (about 15 to 24 lakhs strokes every year). Its incidence is increasing as the population ages but it is also becoming a threatening menace among the younger population. However, improvements in prevention, especially acute treatment, and newer methods of neurorehabilitation have the potential to lead to a substantial decrease in the burden of stroke. With INSC, we are committed to help neurologists stay abreast of recent developments in scientific research in stroke and allied disciplines, and to promote, develop, and facilitate exchange of knowledge and experiences among neurologists in managing stroke. The 16th edition of INSC has attracted some of the brightest minds from India and abroad in stroke research and management. Case and oral presentations from experts coupled with workshops would make the event an academically and socially enriching experience for participating delegates”.

The ongoing pre-conference workshop features sessions on neurosonology, neuro intervention, neuroradiology, neuro rehab, and nursing for stroke. Some of the key topics to be covered in the main conference include: Management of Intracranial and Internal carotid artery stenosis, Challenges in Intravenous Thrombolysis, Stroke and Anticoagulation, Management of Acute Ischaemic Stroke, the Science and the Art of Acute Stroke Thrombolysis, Managing Complications during Thrombectomy and Stent Retrieval, the Spectrum of Cerebral Microvascular Changes, Mechanisms Enhancing Spontaneous Repair and Recovery & Restorative Therapies, and Early versus Delayed Mobilisation after Acute Stroke.
