Vishal’s Madha Gaja Raja has created a history by becoming the first-ever movie to get released after 12 years and register an inevitable blockbuster success in the box office. The film directed by Sundar C, features an ensemble star-cast comprising Vishal, Santhanam, Anjali, Varalaxmi, with Vijay Antony as the music director. Although the film had a delayed release, it has struck the right chords, by winning the hearts of general audiences, press and media critics, thereby becoming a massive hit.
Marking the grand success, the entire team hosted a Thanksgiving Meet in Chennai.
Here are some excerpts from the event…
The success of the film “Madhagaja Raja” has significantly exhibited that despite a long delay for nearly 12 years, a good movie will always find the best reception. . I personally attended screenings in several theaters to witness it firsthand. It is only now, after 12 years, that I have the opportunity to meet director Sundar.C. The belief that “Madhagaja Raja” will continue to run, regardless of when it is released, has been a sentimental bonding and belief that existed within our entire crew, and all of us are so happy that things have worked out very well in our favour now.
MGR marks my second collaboration with Sundar C sir after ‘Kalakalappu’. I totally enjoyed working and watching ‘Madha Gaja Raja’ and it is my all time favourite movie. I am not sure if its coincidental, but my character names in both the movies ‘Kalakalappu’ and ‘Madha Gaja Raja’ directed by Sundar C is ‘Madhavi’, and it has become my lucky factor now. But I request him to change my name in his next movie.
‘My Dear Lover-u’ has become the favourite track of crowds again and it has been acclaimed as the crowd-pulling factor. I had earlier worked with Cinematographer Richard sir in Angaadi Theru, and in this movie. We have also worked in many projects, and now in a new project. Whenever, we meet, we used to talk a lot about this project. I am a great fan of Vijay Antony sir, and my favourite tracks in this film are ‘Chikku Bhukku’ and ‘My Dear loveru’.
Music Director Vijay Antony said, “The way, Sundar C sir extracted the work from me was so smooth and enjoyable. He will almost complete the lyrics for all the songs, and will always support me in creating a song successfully. I have introduced many singers through my albums, but Vishal has become an overnight music star with the song ‘My Dear Loveru’. The entire world of Carnatic musicians are in unrecoverable shock. Usually it takes at least 3 years to learn Carnatic music, but Vishal mastered in a span of few minutes. Vishal is even performing this song in my Live-In Concert. As soon as the news spread that he is performing, the tickets sold like hot cakes. Anjali is looking beautiful not just in the movie before 12 years, but even now.
Just as the director has carried the entire idea and his visualisations perfectly, the producers have stood beside him as a father, thereby giving the best support, which is now evident through the grand visuals.
Director Sundar C said, “Usually, I never prefer having success meet for my movies that includes my recent hit movie ‘Aranmanai 4’. I follow the habit of getting into next movie as soon as my present project releases. However, this film has endowed a never-before happiness, and this is so special than any other project. Many in the industry passed comments that what would a movie that is releasing after 13 years is going to perform. But we in the team blindly banked our trust on the fans. It is because the film had carried so much positive vibes from them from the time of announcement and even now with its release date announcement. I take this opportunity to thank producer Manohar Prasad, Tirupur Subramaniam, A.C. Shanmugham, A.C.S Arun Kumar, and Madan for being a great support in releasing this movie.
I had a strong faith that the film will be earn the appreciations, but never expected that it would exceed beyond my imaginations. All that I can give back is this Thanksgiving and emotional tears. I thank my Guru Manivannan, Manobala, the angelic beauties Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Anjali and the entire team for such a great support. Vishal and Karthick are the heroes, who blindly trust me, and it’s quite a rarity to find the same in heroines, but Anjali had done it, and made my films Kalakalappu and Madha Gaja Raja, a memorable project. Varalaxmi got onboard for this project during the spur of moment, and she rendered an excellent support.
Myself and Santhanam together have worked in many projects, and he had given 40 days call sheet for this movie. Although it’s been 13 years, it’s great to see heart-warming response for the songs and BGM by Vijay Antony and my humble thanks to him. I had tortured Vijay Antony for a song in this movie for nearly 5 days, and was little disappointed when it didn’t get good response during that time. But now I am glad that it is receiving phenomenal response. ‘Chikku Bhukku’ song was coincidentally placed in this movie, as the tune was rejected by another movie team. Now this song is being played in all the village festivals.
The efforts by Vishal for this film are beyond anyone’s imaginations as he went through lots of mental and physical strains to develop the 8-pack physique. Naturally, he has won the hearts of audiences for his hard work. Gemini Film Circuit are wonderful producers, and Madha Gaja Raja has made their reentry more powerful. I wish and request them that they continue to produce more movies out here in the Tamil film industry. I am a hardcore fan of MGR, and my entire day gets more positive if I come across his image or hear his song somewhere. I am so happy that the movie carrying his name as title has become a super hit now.”
Actor Vishal said, “First and foremost, I would like to thank everyone for their kindness and genuine wishes for my health. I was truly touched to receive calls from medical professionals, judges, and officials from various countries, all showing authentic concern for my well-being, especially since they had never seen me in this condition before. After the event, I realized how many people care about me, including those who had not shown support in the past. The doctors advised me not to attend due to a high fever of over 103 degrees. In the past 12 years, whenever myself and Sundar C used to me, he would give confidence that the movie will be a successful hit, and finally it has happened. It was Vijay Antony, who would often encourage and install the confidence in me that the film will be a great hit. It’s a rare thing to see that a movie after 12-13 years is releasing and is having a good reception. My heart goes to one and all, who have this film successful.
I’ve seen many stories claiming I’ve become an alcoholic and am dealing with nervous issues. I want to emphasise that the media is welcome to contact me for the truth, and I’m happy to share.
The silver lining is realising how many people genuinely care for me. I often feel anxious about visiting a hospital or seeing a doctor. However, acting in films directed by Sundar C. is therapeutic for me and brings me joy. It’s impressive for a director to have a successful career in the film industry for 30 years.
We share a close familial bond with producer Manohar Prasath, and it has been quite some time since we have seen such a smile on his face. At the Devi Theatre, a total of 8,000 people attended across four screens in a single day. It’s essential for you to return to the film industry with full vigor; we need more producers like you. When we have producers who support us, we, as actors, are ready to dedicate ourselves wholeheartedly to our work. My close friend Varalaxmi looks fresh and vibrant. Although, we have worked only in a couple of movies, we share a bond like college friends. I usually don’t have the habit of crying, but was totally moved with her performance in ‘Hanuman’ in a particular scene. I was in gleeful tears with the heartwarming response of audiences in the theaters.
I think MGR is blessing me from somewhere as we are celebrating the success of this movie on his 108th birth anniversary. I had tattooed his name in Mark Antony. Significantly, both the movies are greater hits.
Madha Gaja Raja has become an express that isn’t stopping anywhere due to the tremendous support of family audiences. I could realise that they were thirsting for an entertainer, which was evident with 20 minute sequence in the second half. My heartiest thanks to Santhanam. Our combination has always been a great hit. Just like all are saying, it would be great to see his comeback as vintage Santhanam soon.
My next films are with Gautham Vasudev Menon, Ajay Gnanamuthu and Thupparivalan 2. I am curiously waiting to collaborate with Sundar C, and with his nod, I am ready to allot dates immediately putting aside the committed projects. While fans are curiously waiting for our comeback, we are planning to re-release our ‘Aambala’ movie soon.”
