Chennai, 7th–8th February 2025 – The School of Commerce at S.A. College of Arts & Science successfully hosted a two-day National Seminar on “Promoting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Through Regional Language Translation,” organized by the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT), Ministry of Education, Government of India. The seminar highlighted the pivotal role of language in advancing sustainable development and ensuring accessibility for all.
The seminar was inaugurated by Ms. Mercy Lalrohluo Hmar, Assistant Director – Chemistry, CSTT, New Delhi. The day one’s sessions featured distinguished speakers addressing various Sustainable Development Goals:

Dr. Prof. C. Vethirajan from Alagappa University spoke on SDG – Peace & Justice, emphasizing the importance of fairness, transparency, and strong institutions in achieving sustainable societies. Mr. Abishek Sham Ranjan, Program Director of PRS Group, explored SDG – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, discussing the role of technological advancements and resilient infrastructure in fostering economic growth. Mr. Sandeep Modi, Founder of Swastick Tea Pvt. Ltd., addressed SDG – Responsible Consumption and Production, advocating for sustainable business practices and mindful resource utilization. Dr. Sowmiya, Professor at Vel Tech University, spoke on SDG – No Poverty and Zero Hunger, stressing the need for strategic policies and community-driven initiatives to eradicate poverty and hunger.

The second day of the seminar featured thought-provoking sessions by eminent scholars:
Dr. Nazeema A emphasized the necessity of gender equality through education and leadership opportunities. Mr. Sendhil Annamalai underscored the significance of partnerships in achieving SDGs, highlighting the need for multi-stakeholder collaboration. Dr. Gayathri E advocated for quality education and teacher development as catalysts for sustainable progress. Dr. Shobha L addressed the importance of decent work and fair labor practices in economic sustainability. Dr. J.S. Bhuvaneswaran highlighted the critical role of universal healthcare and mental well-being in holistic development. Prof. Girish Nath Jha, CSTT Chairman gave a special address through online platform in the valedictiory session. The seminar was planned and organized by the Director, Dr. V. Sayi Satyavathi, and the Principal, Dr. Malathi Selvakkumar. The Correspondent, Thiru. P. Venkatesh Raja presided over the Valediction. The seminar reinforced the necessity of regional language translation in realizing the SDGs, advocating for linguistic inclusivity and cross-sector collaboration to build a more equitable and sustainable future.
