Deputy Chief Minister Inaugurates ‘FICCI Media & Entertainment Business Conclave (MEBC)–South Connect 2025’ in Chennai, India
Actor Kamal Haasan announced as Chairman of FICCI Media and Entertainment, South
CHENNAI, 21 February 2025: Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr Udhayanidhi Stalin, along with legendary actor-filmmaker Mr Kamal Haasan, today inaugurated the two-day media and entertainment conclave ‘FICCI MEBC South’. Mr Haasan was also announced as the Chairman of FICCI Media and Entertainment Committee, South.
Mr Udhayanidhi Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu emphasized the importance of regional industries in driving global recognition. He expressed his commitment to realize the dream of Dr. Kalaignar (Dr. Karunanidhi) to make Tamil Nadu an entertainment epicenter. “A key initiative is the establishment of a state-of-the-art film city spread across 152 acres in Chennai. This world-class facility will include advanced post-production studios, virtual production technologies, animation and VFX studios, LED walls, and even a 5-star hotel for industry professionals,” he added.
He also made an important announcement towards fulfilling the dream of Dr. Karunanidhi, saying, “In 2010, during Dr. Kalaignar (Dr. Karunanidhi) a 90-acre land near Kelambakkam was allocated for a 99-year lease to film industry organizations for building residential complexes. The construction was to be completed within three years, but the beneficiaries couldn’t finish it, rendering the order invalid. In response to a request from the associations, our Chief Minister decided to revise the order, allowing the land to be used for the intended construction. The revised order was issued recently,” Mr Stalin highlighted.
Mr Kamal Haasan while sharing his insights into the evolving media landscape said, “Indian cinema can become true ambassador for Indian culture. We need a long-term vision for Indian cinema, for which the government, both the state and the centre, will have to come up with regulations to not contain emerging technologies, but include emerging technologies without it impeding the existing market. Also, a request since the Deputy CM is here that we need to relook and reform the state entertainment tax on cinema.”
Mr Kevin Vaz, Chairman, FICCI Media and Entertainment Committee and CEO – Entertainment, JioStar said, “The South’s media landscape has evolved from regional to national and now global, exemplified by icons like Mr. Kamal Haasan, whose films have broken boundaries for decades. The post-pandemic revival of the box office, driven by films like RRR and KGF-2, and Tamil cinema’s storytelling, continue to shape India’s entertainment sector. As digital media grows rapidly, I believe India is an “AND” market, where both TV and digital coexist, unlocking immense potential. With upcoming forums like WAVES and continued innovation, India’s media industry is poised to take the global stage.”
The event aims to serve as a pivotal platform for exploring the future of films, television, OTT, gaming, animation, and digital entertainment, setting the stage for innovation, collaboration, and strategic growth within India’s creative economy
The two-day conclave will feature a dynamic blend of knowledge sessions, masterclasses, workshops, content markets, and exhibitions, exploring critical aspects of India’s evolving media and entertainment landscape. Key focus areas will include the global influence of Indian cinema, the transformation of television and OTT, innovations redefining broadcasting and music consumption, and India’s rise as a powerhouse in gaming, animation, and VFX. Additionally, discussions on Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) in M&E will address regulatory frameworks and policies, fostering a seamless, growth-driven industry ecosystem.
A special segment, PlayNext – Developer’s Day, will delve into gaming, esports, and interactive entertainment, highlighting India’s emergence as a global leader in the AVGC-XR ecosystem.

‘ஃபிக்கி (FICCI) ஊடகம் மற்றும் பொழுதுபோக்கு வணிக மாநாடு (MEBC)–சவுத் கனெக்ட் 2025’-ஐ தமிழ்நாடு துணை முதலமைச்சர் திரு உதயநிதி ஸ்டாலின், நடிகர் மற்றும் இயக்குநர் கமல் ஹாசனுடன் இணைந்து தொடங்கி வைத்தார். இந்நிகழ்ச்சியில் FICCI ஊடகம் மற்றும் பொழுதுபோக்கு (தெற்கு) அமைப்பின் தலைவராக கமல் ஹாசன் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டார்.
உலகளாவிய பொழுதுபோக்கு சந்தையில் இந்தியாவின் இடத்தை வடிவமைப்பதில் பிராந்திய மொழிகள் திறன்வாய்ந்த சக்திகளாக உருவாகி வருவதையும், ஊடகம் மற்றும் பொழுதுபோக்கு துறை பெரும் மாற்றத்திற்கு உள்ளாகி வருவதையும் கருத்தில் கொண்டு, இந்திய வர்த்தகம் மற்றும் தொழில்துறை கூட்டமைப்பான FICCI இந்த வரலாற்றுச் சிறப்புமிக்க இரண்டு நாள் நிகழ்வை சென்னையில் நடத்துகிறது. திரைப்படம், தொலைக்காட்சி, ஓடிடி, கேமிங், அனிமேஷன் மற்றும் டிஜிட்டல் பொழுதுபோக்கு ஆகியவற்றின் எதிர்காலத்தை ஆராய்வதற்கான முக்கிய தளமாக செயல்படுவதை இந்நிகழ்வு நோக்கமாகக் கொண்டுள்ளது. இந்தியாவின் படைப்புலக பொருளாதாரத்தில் புதுமை, ஒத்துழைப்பு மற்றும் வளர்ச்சிக்கு இது அடித்தளம் அமைக்கிறது.
உலகளாவிய அங்கீகாரத்தை ஈர்ப்பதில் பிராந்திய மொழிகளின் முக்கியத்துவத்தை மாண்புமிகு துணை முதலமைச்சர் திரு. உதயநிதி ஸ்டாலின் தனது உரையில் வலியுறுத்தினார். தமிழ்நாட்டை ஒரு பொழுதுபோக்கு மையமாக மாற்ற வேண்டும் என்ற டாக்டர் கலைஞர் (டாக்டர் கருணாநிதி) அவர்களின் கனவை நனவாக்குவதற்கான தனது உறுதிப்பாட்டை அவர் வெளிப்படுத்தினார். சென்னையில் 152 ஏக்கர் பரப்பளவில் ஒரு அதிநவீன திரைப்பட நகரத்தை நிறுவுவது இந்த பயணத்தில் ஒரு முக்கிய முயற்சியாக திகழும். இந்த உலகத்தரம் வாய்ந்த நகரத்தில் அதி நவீன போஸ்ட்-புரொடக்ஷன் ஸ்டுடியோக்கள், மெய்நிகர் தயாரிப்பு தொழில்நுட்பங்கள், அனிமேஷன் மற்றும் VFX ஸ்டுடியோக்கள், LED சுவர்கள் மற்றும் தொழில் வல்லுநர்களுக்கான 5 நட்சத்திர ஹோட்டல் என அனைத்து வசதிகளும் இடம்பெறும்,” என்று திரு. உதயநிதி ஸ்டாலின் கூறினார்.
டாக்டர் கருணாநிதியின் கனவை நிறைவேற்றும் நோக்கில் மற்றுமொரு முக்கியமான அறிவிப்பையும் அவர் வெளியிட்டார். “2010ம் ஆண்டு, டாக்டர் கலைஞர் ஆட்சிக் காலத்தில், கேளம்பாக்கம் அருகே 90 ஏக்கர் நிலம் திரைப்படத் துறை அமைப்புகளுக்கு குடியிருப்பு வளாகங்கள் கட்டுவதற்காக 99 ஆண்டு குத்தகைக்கு ஒதுக்கப்பட்டது. கட்டுமானப் பணிகள் மூன்று ஆண்டுகளுக்குள் முடிக்கப்பட வேண்டும், ஆனால் பயனாளிகளால் அதை முடிக்க முடியவில்லை, இதனால் உத்தரவு செல்லாமல் போனது. திரையுலக சங்கங்களின் கோரிக்கைக்கு செவி சாய்த்து, நமது முதலமைச்சர் அந்த உத்தரவைத் திருத்தி, நிலத்தை திரையுலகினர் பயன்படுத்த அனுமதித்துள்ளார். திருத்தப்பட்ட உத்தரவு சமீபத்தில் வெளியிடப்பட்டுள்ளது,” என்றார்.
திரு கமல்ஹாசன் பேசுகையில், “இந்திய சினிமா நமது கலாச்சாரத்தின் உண்மையான தூதராக திகழ முடியும். இந்திய சினிமாவின் வளர்ச்சிக்கு ஒரு நீண்டகால தொலைநோக்கு திட்டம் நமக்கு தேவை. இதற்காக மத்திய மற்றும் மாநில அரசுகள் வளர்ந்து வரும் தொழில்நுட்பங்களைக் கட்டுப்படுத்தாமல் சந்தை வளர்ச்சியை ஊக்குவிக்கும் வகையில் வளர்ந்து வரும் தொழில்நுட்பங்களை உள்ளடக்கிய விதிமுறைகளை உருவாக்க வேண்டும்,” என்று கூறினார்.
“மேலும், சினிமா மீதான மாநில பொழுதுபோக்கு வரியை மறுபரிசீலனை செய்து சீர்திருத்த வேண்டும் என்பதை ஒரு வேண்டுகோளாக துணை முதல்வரிடம் தெரிவிக்கிறேன்,” என்று அவர் மேலும் கூறினார்.
FICCI ஊடக மற்றும் பொழுதுபோக்கு குழுவின் தலைவரும், ஜியோஸ்டார் பொழுதுபோக்கு – தலைமை நிர்வாக அதிகாரியுமான கெவின் வாஸ் பேசுகையில், “தென்னிந்திய பொழுதுபோக்கு துறை நாடு தழுவிய வளர்ச்சியை அடைந்து, உலகளாவிய கவனத்தையும் ஈர்த்துள்ளது, இதற்கு உதாரணமாக திரு. கமல்ஹாசன் போன்ற பிரபலங்கள் உள்ளனர். அவர்களின் படங்கள் பல ஆண்டுகளாக எல்லைகளை கடந்து வெற்றி பெற்றுள்ளன. ஆர் ஆர் ஆர் மற்றும் கே ஜி எஃப்-2 போன்ற படங்களாலும், தமிழ் சினிமாவின் கதைசொல்லலாலும் கொரோனா பெருந்தொற்றுக்கு பிந்தைய திரைத்துறை மறுமலர்ச்சி, இந்தியாவின் பொழுதுபோக்குத் துறையை தொடர்ந்து முன்னெடுத்து செல்கிறது.
டிஜிட்டல் ஊடகங்கள் வேகமாக வளர்ந்து வருவதால், தொலைக்காட்சி மற்றும் டிஜிட்டல் ஆகிய இரண்டு துறைகளும் இணைந்து செழிக்கும் மகத்தான திறனை கொண்டுள்ளன. விரைவில் தொடங்கப்பட உள்ள வேவ்ஸ் போன்ற அமைப்புகள் மற்றும் புதுமையான தொடர் முயற்சிகளின் காரணமாக இந்திய பொழுதுபோக்கு துறை உலகளாவிய பாய்ச்சலுக்கு தயாராக உள்ளது,” என்றார்.
இந்த இரண்டு நாள் மாநாட்டில் அறிவுசார் அமர்வுகள், கூட்டங்கள், பயிற்சி பட்டறைகள், உள்ளடக்க சந்தைகள் மற்றும் கண்காட்சிகள் உள்ளிட்டவை இடம் பெற்றிருப்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. இந்தியாவின் வளர்ந்து வரும் ஊடகம் மற்றும் பொழுதுபோக்கு துறையின் முக்கிய அம்சங்களை இந்த மாநாடு ஆய்வு செய்யும். இந்திய சினிமாவின் உலகளாவிய செல்வாக்கு, தொலைக்காட்சி மற்றும் OTT துறைகளால் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள மாற்றம், ஒளிபரப்பு மற்றும் இசை நுகர்வை மறுவரையறை செய்யும் புதுமை திட்டங்கள் மற்றும் கேமிங், அனிமேஷன், VFX உள்ளிட்ட துறைகளில் இந்தியாவின் எழுச்சி ஆகியவை மீது முக்கிய கவனம் செலுத்தப்படும். மேலும், ஊடகம் மற்றும் பொழுதுபோக்கு துறையில் வணிகம் செய்வதை எளிமைப் படுத்துவது (EoDB), ஒழுங்குமுறை அமைப்புகள், கொள்கைகள், தடையற்ற, வளர்ச்சி சார்ந்த தொழில் சூழல் பற்றிய விவாதங்கள் நடைபெறும்.
