V.G.K. Builders pays fitting Tribute to Tamil Language and Culture
by installing hoarding with days of month in Tamil Letters in Tambaram
Chennai, 17 April 2025: It is not every day that people get past to travel a hoarding that indicates the days of the month in the mother tongue of Tamil.
This has been made possible in Tambaram where V.G.K. Builders has installed a monthly calendar as a road side hoarding. The highlight of the hoarding is that all the days of the month of April have been written in original, and ancient Tamil script, something that is dear to everyone.
While it might be difficult for ordinary people to decipher the script and come to terms with the date, a little learning and understanding with the same, will help people come to terms with it.
V.G.K. Builders, among the most prominent, sought-after, and trusted realtors and promoters, especially in the southern suburbs of Chennai, has installed a hoarding alongside the road over bridge on Mudichur – Tambaram – Velachery Main Road. This has been done to mark the Tamil New Year of Visuvasuva, in the month of Chithirai.
The banner caused a lot of curiosity among people who stopped by it, taking photos and trying to decipher it.
The hoarding with the text in Tamil that has been placed at the spot beneath the Calendar for the Tamil Month of Chithirai is as follows:
“நம் தாய் தமிழ் மொழியின் ஓர் அற்புத அங்கமாகத் தமிழெங்கள் திகழ்கின்றன. இவற்றை ஒவ்வொரு வீட்டிலும் அடுத்த தலைமுறையினருக்கு கற்பித்தல் அவசியம்.”
The text above in Tamil means thus: “The Tamil Alphabet is an integral part of our Tamil Language, that makes it so special. This Tamil Alphabet has to be taken to every household so that it is learnt by all for the coming generations to learn, imbibe, and form a part of it.”
Selvi Ilavarasan, a homemaker, and a mother of two, said that there was a need for more such display and information boards in Tamil. “Information boards in English and other languages for the purpose of communication to others is alright, but I whole heartedly welcome this wonderful and unique concept from V.G.K. Builders, and this could not have come at a more appropriate time,” Ms. Selvi added.
