This is not the first time that popular actors and influencers from the region are partnering with Spotify for podcasts. Since last year, popular voices such as RJ Balaji, RJ Ananthi, RJ Sha, and Kishen Das, among others have signed exclusive podcasts with the audio streaming app. This is in line with the latter’s effort to localise content for its listeners in the region.
Tamil, one of the fastest-growing languages on Spotify India, has been an integral part of Spotify’s journey since its launch in 2019. Dhruvank Vaidya, Head of Podcasts, Spotify India, said, “The diversity of culture, languages, and content in India means that we are always looking for ways to connect with our vibrant listener community here. The Tamil listeners are an important part of our growth story. Since launch, we have spent time building the app experience, music curation, and podcast creation ecosystem for the Tamil audience. It is our endeavour to bring authentic music and stories that resonate with Tamil listeners and we will continue to work closely with our local label partners, artist communities, and podcast creators to make this content available to our listeners.”.
