Critics heap praises on Sita Ramam; emerges as a must-watch in theatres

Drawing poetic momentum from the buzz it created, the recently released Sita Ramam garners rave reviews for canvassing a saga that’s more than a love story. Starring Dulquer Salmaan, Mrunal Thakur and Rashmika Mandanna, the magnum opus celebrates the idea that humanity matters more than victory in war, geographical boundaries and religion. With discussions of ‘them’ and ‘us’ that have dominated the globe, the theme of humanity in the Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema production is relevant and carved out aesthetically without clichés.

The Hanu Raghavapudi directorial has levelled with the expectations and excitement it created after it hit the theatres in full force much to the delight of the audience who are celebrating it with festival-like fervour. Glowing reviews from critics and audience surface for the story that addresses the mystery surrounding Sita Mahalakshmi (Mrunal Thakur’s debut in Telugu cinema) and Lt Ram (Dulquer Salmaan) through two timelines — 1964 and 1984. While Afreen (Rashmika Mandanna), a Pakistan-origin student arrives in India to trace Sita to hand her a 20-year-letter written by Ram.

The film witnesses the lead actors Dulquer, Mrunal and Rashmika in their most earnest form in a glorious dreamy era. Dulquer makes a pan-India impact, Mrunal delivers a South debut worth watching in theatres and Rashmika enlivens her part with absolute conviction. Director Raghavapudi has navigated the larger-than-life tale with stunning visuals and captured the depth of the narrative with his cinematic acumen.

Talking about the shining reviews, Producer C Aswani Dutt says, “We’re delighted with the incredibly positive reviews that have bestowed upon our film Sita Ramam. I’m grateful that our intention to tell a story that matters and hard work have been duly honoured. I would like to congratulate the whole team who poured their all into making the story larger-than-life. To be appreciated and loved to such a degree is overwhelming for us all.”

Sita Ramam is presented by National Award-winning Vyjayanthi Movies and produced by C. Aswani Dutt for Swapna Cinema. Directed by Hanu Raghavapudi with P S Vinod cinematography, Vishal Chandrasekhar music, and choreography by Brinda Master, Sita Ramam stars Dulquer Salmaan, Rashmika Mandanna, and Mrunal Thakur.
