But as the layers peel back, the story reveals more secrets than answers, culminating in an incomplete narrative that teases a sequel instead of offering closure.

At its core, Gajaana presents an idea brimming with potential — an adventure infused with myth, madness, and metaphysical questions. The concept of a cursed forest and a mystical stone hunt is ripe for gripping cinema. Unfortunately, the execution fails to uphold this promise. The film sacrifices narrative clarity for stylized confusion, and the high-concept quickly spirals into underdeveloped subplots and unanswered questions.

Execution: Undercooked and Overstretched

What truly drags Gajaana down is its amateurish execution. The film is visually unconvincing, with glaringly fake blood, lackluster CGI creatures, and awkward VFX sequences that break immersion rather than enhance it. The editing and pacing suffer too — key moments lack dramatic build-up, and transitions feel abrupt or disconnected.

Moreover, the inclusion of comedy tracks featuring Yogi Babu and Rajendran, while mildly entertaining, feel forced and irrelevant to the story. These scenes disrupt the tone rather than offer relief, and the time could have been better used to develop central characters or explore the mythology further.

Directed by Sathyasiva, the film “Freedom,” featuring Sasikumar in the lead role, is set for a global theatrical release on July 10

Produced by Pandian Parasuraman under the Vijaya Ganapathy Pictures banner, the film stars Sasikumar and Lijomol Jose of Jai Bhim fame, and is helmed by acclaimed director Sathyasiva, known for the critically acclaimed film Kazhugu. The official poster announcing the release date was unveiled by the film team.

Director Sathyasiva, who made a mark with Kazhugu, has crafted “Freedom” as a gripping thriller drama based on a real-life incident from the 1990s.

After the success of his Tourist Family Blockbuster, Sasikumar returns with yet another distinct film set against the backdrop of Eelam. The pairing of Sasikumar and Lijomol Jose, reminiscent of classic on-screen duos like Sasikumar and Simran, is expected to captivate audiences with their strong onscreen chemistry.

Known for choosing unique subjects and delivering consistent hits, Sasikumar is expected to once again charm audiences with a heartwarming and engaging film.

Since the film is set in the 1990s, the team has worked diligently to recreate the era authentically. A grand set replicating the East Coast Road of that period was constructed at great expense to shoot key scenes. The entire filming took place across Chennai and Kerala and is now complete.

Sasikumar plays the lead in a unique role, while Lijomol Jose, who caught attention in Jai Bhim, plays the female lead. Bollywood actor Sudev Nair takes on the role of the antagonist. The cast also includes Malavika (of KGF fame), Boss Venkat, M. Ramasamy, and Ramesh Khanna in pivotal roles.

Having served as an executive producer on many major Tamil films, Pandian Parasuraman now makes his debut as a full-fledged producer with this grand-scale project under the Vijaya Ganapathy Pictures banner.
