Chennai, 23 October2023: British Council, the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, is inviting all theatre enthusiasts and culture connoisseurs to delve into the enduring world of Othello. Bringing the best of the UK’s art and culture to the Indian audience, this event offers a cinematic experience you will not want to miss.
The modern interpretation of Othello explores the challenges faced by Desdemona and Othello, an interracial couple whose love story takes a tragic turn due to external forces and personal insecurities.With a renowned cast that includes Giles Terera (known for his role in Hamilton), Rosy McEwen (The Alienist), and Paul Hilton (The Inheritance), the rendition promises to captivate the Indian audience.
The screening is followed by a short panel discussion which shall focus on Shakespeare’s work, particularly Othello. The Head of the English Department at Ethiraj College, Chennai, will moderate the discussion, with selected college students joining in as panellists.
Theevent is entirely free, serving as a part of an initiative to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the UK’s National Theatre, one of the most prominent publicly funded performing arts venues in the UK.For more information, check out the official website.
