Bejoy Nambiar’s latest offering, “Por,” is a visually stunning rollercoaster ride that struggles to find coherence amidst its flashy technical prowess. Where “Por” truly shines is in its technical aspects. The vibrant cinematography, enhanced by dynamic drone shots and seamless editing, captivates the audience from start to finish. The Extraction-inspired single-take sequence in the climax showcases Nambiar’s mastery of visual storytelling, albeit with occasional distractions due to out-of-focus shots.

Performances and Homage to Mani Ratnam:
The cast delivers commendable performances, with Arjun Das and Kalidas Jayaram shining in their respective roles. Nambiar pays homage to his mentor, Mani Ratnam, with subtle references to Ratnam’s films like “Aayutha Ezhuthu.” However, unlike Ratnam’s works, “Por” struggles to transcend its confined setting and explore broader themes.
