“Uyir Thamizhukku”*

Storyline
The movie “Uyir Thamizhukku” directed by Ameeer features an ensemble cast including Santhini Sreedharan, Imaan Annachi, Raj Kapoor, Anandaraj, Saravanan Sakthi, Mahanathi Sankar, Subramaniam Siva, Kanja Karuppu, and others. Vidyasagar has composed the music for this film, which was released today (May 10) in theaters.

The story revolves around a political thriller set in Chennai, where the treasurer of a prominent political party and former minister Anandaraj is assassinated. His daughter, Santhini, falls in love with Amir, the district secretary of the party’s front office bearers who joined the ruling party after joining the district association. Amir is accused of the murder, but Santhini believes in his innocence. The movie unfolds the mystery of how they come together despite the odds.

Romance Amidst Politics
Director Ameeer avoids clichés in romantic scenes, focusing more on the political intrigue. The love between Cable TV presenter Pandian (Amir) and Tamil Selvi (Santhini) is portrayed against a backdrop of political upheavals. The chemistry between them is beautifully depicted in romantic sequences, although the second half lacks depth in acting. Supporting actors like Anandaraj, Raj Kapoor, and Imaan Annachi add comic relief at appropriate intervals.

Plus, Minus, and Overall Verdict
“Uyir Thamizhukku” has been in the making for the past 5 years after V. I. Sudhir initially directed it but later stepped down. Despite the delay, the production values are commendable, especially in visually appealing scenes. The effort put into crafting the story is evident, although there are some logical loopholes that could have been addressed.

One of the major positives of the film is its contemporary political narrative. The depiction of various political scenarios like meditation before samadhi, the four-year rule by the mercy of the central government, leadership transition in Marina Beach, and the EM machine influencing governance appeals to audiences interested in political dramas. Vidyasagar’s background score adds to the old-school charm required for such narratives.

Overall, “Uyir Thamizhukku” is a creatively crafted political drama worth watching for its intriguing storyline and engaging performances.

Short Verdict Quote:
“An engaging political drama with a touch of romance, ‘Uyir Thamizhukku’ keeps you hooked till the end.”
