21st September, Chennai 2023:
Mumbai-based artisanal brand, Suta, is further expanding its retail footprint with a beautiful new store on Dr Radhakrishnan Salai, in the picturesque Mylapore neighbourhood. Spread over an area of 1,575 sq. ft., the store has been thoughtfully designed to offer the quintessential Suta shopping experience for Chennai connoisseurs.
The store’s location in Mylapore has been carefully chosen considering its religious significance and rich cultural heritage, as well as its vibrant music and arts scene. Known for its role in preserving Chennai’s traditional South Indian culture, Mylapore is a place where history comes to life and tradition rubs shoulders with modernity. This amalgamation is the perfect backdrop for Suta, known for preserving heirloom artisanal weaves and infusing them with a contemporary twist.
Within the store, each space has been thoughtfully designed to offer shoppers an intimate and immersive experience. The design is undeniably Suta – understated, sensitive, timeless and elegant. The store’s interiors have been crafted using sustainable products such as jute, and sustainable strategies that including repurposing items that would have otherwise been discarded in landfills – this mind set permeates the choice of items used for storage and displays, and even the light fixtures. Additionally, the store has a completely flexible and adaptive display system, and is being decorated with contemporary works of art as well as bright murals hand-painted by Suta employees, an unmistakable Suta signature.
“Chennai has been very special for Suta, since our earliest days. We’ve always been welcomed with open arms whenever we’ve visited, with our Suta Bazaar exhibitions. And so, it was a natural choice for us to open our sixth store in this beautiful city. We only hope that Chennai continues to shower us with the same love it has always had for Suta,” shared Sujata Biswas, Co-founder of Suta.
Speaking about timing of the launch, which coincides with the start of the festive season, Taniya Biswas, also a Co-founder of Suta, shared that the brand will be stocking up on their recent festive launches, which feature artisanal weaves from various parts of the country. “To add a touch of Suta to the festivities, we’ve launched exquisite collections that revive heirloom weaves, including Chikankari, Mashru and Jamdani, and in ornate but breathable fabrics. Our goal is to offer options that combine comfort and aesthetics, for wearers of all ages and body types. Our store will also stock exclusive products that aren’t available on our website and app and offer special discounts and deals. We can’t wait for Chennai to discover the Suta experience, in all its glory!” she added.
The store opens its doors to customers on September 22, 11 am onwards. This move marks the beginning of yet another chapter in Chennai’s long and storied relationship with Suta.
